Yes, indeed I hope Joni has a happy birthday. She is the reason why we are on this list of course. Joni has a gift that she has shared with the world. She has given us a little beauty, a little warmth, a little light, a reason to look out and within and for that, I am forever grateful. I listened to a part of Court & Spark on my way to work (a part as the ride didn't last for the entire album). I still am amazed and entranced by the sounds and lyrics of Joni's compositions. I'm so glad that I worked at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame gift shop and happened to hear something that so grabbed me-Free Man In Paris. I still remember that day hearing what I found to be a beautiful voice and something alluring. I had to search for the song/artist, downloaded the song (yep), listened to it a ton of times but then found I wanted more. I ordered Court & Spark from the library and shortly after, ordered Blue. Then I bought those albums, the journey continued, and here I am today. - -M ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 Nov 2010 11:09:28 -0600 From: est86mlm@ameritech.net Subject: Joni Photo & Mary McCartney's new book Jerry, Thanks for the heads-up on this news! Found a picture (the one you saw?) here: http://www.vogue.co.uk/news/daily/101025-mary-mccartney-launches-her-first-b/gallery.aspx# titled: Joni Mitchell in London 2001 The book is called "From Where I Stand". Laura Date: Sat, 6 Nov 2010 09:27:40 -0400 From: Gerald Notaro Subject: Mary McCartney's new book CBS Early Show did a feature this morning on Paul McCartney's daughter and her new book of photographs. One they showed is a recent full page B&W of Joni. Of course, she is smoking a cigarette, and showing it's not-so-flattering effects. It sounded like applause. Did you get the round resounding meant for you Wherever you are? No need for chicken scratching. Your immortality was secure long ago. It is recognized by many. Some who practice your art. The few who are your peers. The grudging and the envious Who nonetheless know that none can touch you. And not least of all there are the many admirers. The ones who play and sing your wondrous music Who gather to share song and fellowship Who forge lasting friendships and a community out of their love for your music Who strive to archive your life and art Who pay tribute through their own interpretations of it Who painstakingly collect all of those tributes as proof of your lasting mark on the world And those who watch from the wings and occasionally emerge And in their fumbling way try to express how and why You have enriched and continue to enrich their lives and nourish their souls. Part of you will always pour out of them in their words from time to time. So on this bald-headed in November, here is a wish for you That you continue to shake your fists at lightning and roar like forest fire Continue spreading your light like blazes all across the sky And sometimes let your little light shine on the hope and the hopelessness. As long as we have you, we will always have hope and a voice. Enjoy the gifts of family, friends, heart and humor that life brings you. We celebrate you today on this anniversary of the day you came into the world. We are grateful that you came to the table and brought so many gifts to the banquet. So here's to you! That's my very best to you Happy Birthday, Joni! Very Joni pose. And title sounds close to a Joni song. Jerry On Sun, Nov 7, 2010 at 12:09 PM, wrote: > Jerry, > > Thanks for the heads-up on this news!
