When I joined the list, I was a naive uni student just new to computers. My student residence had Mac labs open all night so, I thought, "this Joni stuff might be a lark". No, honestly, I had no idea what a discussion list was but, it was about Joni so, I persisted. I received the digest on an old Mac Classic. No colour screens in those days. Of course, Apple were sneaky about supplying computers to uni students to get them hooked, which I am. That was back in 1997. My memory is vague about the discussions back then because I was pretending to study Neuroscience. I do remember a bit of flaming going on which I was quite shocked at. After university, I dropped off for a while but came back about 4 years later. The discussions don't seem to be as deep as they once were or is that my memory? Anyway, love them or hate them, you can't change family. Brother Mark in Sydney PS Anyone who would like any of my wallpaper designs that were on the JMDL website, they are now living on my Facebook page. Help yourself. I do hope that Joni is in Canada...cool and comfortable. Far away from the heat of LA. Martha ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Sep 2010 13:51:34 +0000 (GMT) From: Lieve Reckers Subject: Warren, Bonnie, Linda & Jackson in 'Wonderland' Paul, I have taken the risk upon my head to send your message to the Joni-only list. I think that this includes enough background so close to Joni to make it Joni-related, even if she's not mentioned. People can put the NJC back in the subject line if they are going to reply about the non-Joni aspects, but I just felt they deserved this treat. Thanks so much, Paul, for making this available in such an easy way. After having read several books about the LA music scene in the 70s, it's nice to see a bit of footage. I guess people who were there at the time must have so many "Oh My God!" moments when they recognise houses or people in these clips! Even I get nostalgic, just from remembering what I had heard and read... Thanks a million, mate! Lieve in London PS Are we going to see you at Dave and Robin's gig on Saturday? - ---- Date: Mon, 27 Sep 2010 23:15:05 +0100 From: Paul Castle Subject: Warren, Bonnie, Linda & Jackson in 'Wonderland' (njc) Recently stumbled across a Dutch TV documentary made in 1977 called 'Wonderland' - about Los Angeles and its influence on Warren Zevon, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne. It appears that a Japanese fan found a bootleg DVD on the streets of Tokyo, cut it up into 15 parts & uploaded it to YouTube and then posted it to Linda Ronstadt's fan forum. Warren's widow Crystal Zevon found it there & posted his pieces to FaceBook. The interviews and documentary footage - eg Linda in her Malibu home and on the beach, Warren going to Burrito King on Sunset Boulevard and meeting fans at the Griffitho;? Observatory, Bonnie giving a tour of Frederick's of Hollywood (which she describes as "All that's sick about the way American's think about women", etc) has a rather strange home movie feel to it, accentuated by a dramatic classical music score (Dvorak's 'Suite In A Major for Orchestra') and some wonderful concert and studio footage of all four artists. (Warren sings 'Carmelita' and 'Frank & Jesse James'. Linda sings 'Tracks Of My Tears' and 'Lose Again', Bonnie sings 'Nothing Seems To Matter' and 'Give It Up Or Let Me Go' and Jackson sings 'After The Deluge') I've put all 15 parts up on my posterous site @ http://studio16a.posterous.com but if you only have time to watch one (or two!), don't miss Bonnie's songs - "Nothing Seemso;? To Matter" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCfh8jSbNPI "Give It Up Oro;? Let Me Go" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEnMfy1nEew Very best to all PaulC ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Sep 2010 10:59:38 -0400 From: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com Subject: 2011 Hall of Fame nominees http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/17386/211342 First-timers: Bon Jovi, TOM WAITS (YAY!!), Alice Cooper, Neil Diamond, Donovan Repeats: LAURA NYRO (YAY!), LL Cool J, J.
