Dave and Robin start a Jonirush in Greenwich! Last evening IB received my weeklyB email from the local GreenwichB Picturehouse, a lovely cinema that is not above hosting some very good live gigs as well, and I saw that on 4 and 5 October, they have anotherB musical evening with Keith James, a musician who hasB previously beenB doing evenings there playingB the music ofB Nick Drake, John Martyn and the like.B Well now he is doing The GreatB B Canadian Songbook, covering Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Leonard Cohen.B B B I thought it was such an amazing coincidence, with Dave and Robin playing at Oliver's Music Bar just around the corner a few days earlier (2 October), that I wrote the subject line and pasted the text of the announcement into my draft message.B Then I decided to go to bed and finish the message in the morning.B Now in the morning, I see that that young whipper snapper Jamie Zubairi has managed to beat me to it with Clapham, where Keith James is playing the same programme.B (For non-Londoners: Clapham is another South LondonB borough, like Greenwich.) Still, Jamie, I am not going to change my subject line, because I wrote that before I saw yours, so there!B And here is the text I had already pasted in: Keith James performs a concert of The Great Canadian Song Book Personal interpretations of the music of Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Leonard Cohen. An intimate concert of music with such undeniable integrity that it flows from the innermost wellspring of the human spirit. Their music forms the backdrop to all the joy, hope and anxiety that each of us has lived through in recent times. These songs expose such personal and global fragility. They continue to embrace us as if they were our mothersb arms. Also included is some rare and never before transcribed poetry by both Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen, which with great pain and respect has been set to music. Plus a documentary on the life and music of Joni Mitchell. bcertainly the UKbs most celebrated and evocative interpreter of Golden music.b - - The Guardian bKeith James has become a pillar of trust. A sublimely intimate and engaging voice.b - Sunday Times www.keith-james.com B And Jamie, just to be completely fair, here is your original message again: Date: Tue, 21 Sep 2010 12:44:36 +0100 From: Gmail Subject: Joni Mitchell in Clapham.
