Hi all, I'm dropping by a lot lately because I don't know how long I have before my next technological disaster. My touchbar or whatever the hell it's called had stopped working, nor would my pc respond to any mouse. Well, the young men in the PC Shop (the only ones in walking distance -- 2 miles -- who presented themselves as computer-fixer-uppers) said they could fix it easily and it wouldn't cost much, or take much time. I confess that I told them that (a) I can't see well, and (b) I have no feeling in my fingers anymore, and the PC had hinted that there was software hidden somewhere therein that I couldn't locate, much less install. Ten days later, they finaly had "fixed" my computer, making up for the extended wait by adding in some free software I'll never use. To be fair, I can see the screen a lot better, but it seems harder to type than ever. My guess is that they made the keyboard less sensitive, which they probably thought would help. Shortly after I got home with it, I discovered that I couldn't find any word processing software. None. Also, I keep getting frantic messages telling me I've got fake windows software. I mentioned this to the proprietor when I staggered back the two miles in 95-degree heat so he could put in *some* kind of word processor, but as for the frantic fake windows messages, well, um, they'd had to (I may be paraphrasing here) dismantle Windows 7 to get my touchpad working again, and then put in some kind of patchwork Wniwdoooz 3.1416 in its place. Turns out he'd just fired the guy who'd mangled my PC (a college buddy of his, I suspect). The word processor works, as far as I can tell, but I'm araid to let this guy touch the poor sick thing anymore. So about every third letter I type doesn't show up, and it takes me an hour to type something that once would have taken me five minutes. Whew. Sorry about all that, but I had to get it off my chest. I'm at the absolute mercy of kids like this. It's not that I'm an idiot -- I spent last fall, winter and spring tutoring college algebra, advanced caculus, vector analysis, etc., and wll be working with some of the same folks on differential equations and linear algebra this fall. But when it comes to technical *objects* from cars to computers, I'm a moron, and I admit it. On the other hand, I hate being condescended to just as much as anyone, and comoputer geeks seem particularly prone to this malady. Sorry -- didn't mean to go on this much. On to happier stuff I went to jonimitchell.com yesterday and was pleased to see some videos there that I had not known existed, among them the Shine promo (what were the three letters after "Shine" in the caption, TKG? PTG?and what do they stand for?), and it made me curious whether there were any rumors as to what if anything Joni's been up to lately. The promo mentioned an art show in NY, I think, and I assume it either happened or not. :-) When I reappeared from the ether last December, I gathered that there had been talk about a new release of Hejira with alternate takes included (whoever did the art work for the proposed venture, bravo, btw), also something similar for Mingus. Any news on the Morgellen's? Is she still planning work on a second ballet? God willing, some new music?
