The movie itself fell apart for me but Laura Linney gave a powerful performance. Along with Gabriel Byrne and Debra Lee Furness (Mrs Hugh Jackman) and an amazing aboriginal cast. Jindabye is based on the song, Everything's Turning To White (Sung on the soundtrack by Paul Kelly). I have not heard of many movies being based on songs. Maybe a movie could be made from one of joni's songs. Which song of Joni's would make a good movie? Obviously not one that was based on a movie in the first place. Hmmm.... Pirate of Penance perhaps. I'd say The Arrangement or Midnight Cowboy but those were written specifically for film. Conversation would work too. It's probably one of my favourite joni live performances .. its got a particular strength to it; her facial expressions, the lack of the guitar -and the various arms and body movements that that means-, the band, the dancing, the clothing... it's very special. And saw this "Joni Mitchell Klein" tag, which i had never seen before and came across as extremely odd.. i felt somewhat uncomfortable! weird... if you have, it's always the perfect time to watch this gem again!! if you haven't, please DO! http://jonimitchell.com/library/video.cfm?id=61 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Aug 2010 14:41:52 -0400 From: "Jim L'Hommedieu" Subject: Stardust I thought Carl Sagan said "star dust" but he said "star stuff". Wonderful. I couldn't help but notice that all these years I've thought she was singing "And deep in the night/Our appetites find us/Release us and *bind* us..." Blind makes juist as much sense, but I guess I was semantically linkin "release" and "bind". And yeah, that "Joni Mitchell Klein" startled me too. I noticed that some of the subtitles were in Japanese, so maybe it was a local add-on caption for the locals there. It would be quite melodramatic. The Pirate of Penance would be an interesting choice too. A very deep story. It's quite a cinematic song. A mystery. After the recent discussions of Don't Interrupt The Sorrow, I would love to see that made into a movie. I see it as something like, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? A swanky party that starts to go downhill as alcohol brings out uncomfortable truths. Set somewhere in the American south. Cat On a Hot Tin Roof kind of feel maybe. I see Elizabeth Taylor giving Paul Newman an earful as he slowly gets blind drunk. Did I go too far? Well, that's one idea anyway. I think the scenario is rich in dramatic effect. A story could easily be built around it too. They've had a past relationship and now she has moved on but, he is full of pride. She has just come back home to see old friends but, she has a successful life out in California. He just won't accept that and thinks she has come back to see him.
