Hi Sue, I have to agree with you about the risk of a biopic being cheesy. There have been some stinkers. If it's done right, it could be wonderful though. I'd say it's inevitable but, maybe not until after Joni's death. How ever it is done, I think some or all of us will not be happy with it. There will undoubtedly be some crucial segment of Joni's life left out or played wrong or badly or they'll get the wrong Director or a bad choice of songs for the soundtrack or something. Laura Linney would be a fair choice. This was a subject we discussed not long ago and I think many people agreed that Rosanna Arquette would be a good choice for Joni's later life. Thanks for mentioning Judy Davis - an idol of mine. One of the finest actress Australia has ever produced. She attended NIDA the same year as Mel Gibson and several other luminaries of Australian theatre. I've been told that Judy lives just down the road from me. I haven't spotted her yet. Maybe I could throw another Aussie name into the hat to play Joni...Cate Blanchett? Pull her hair back a bit and she could kind of look like Joni. I mean, if Cate can pull off Bob Dylan, why not Joni? My two cents. My favorite roles of hers were The Truman Show (the wife who also has to sneak in product advertisements) and You Can Count On Me which just knocked me out. Thanks to Stephen Elliott I saw her in The Crucible on broadway and then enjoyed a meet and greet and autograph session. Much shorter than I thought but prettier in person and amazingly kind and gracious. Cate Blanchett can do anything. I think she'd be a fine choice. She even sings beautifully, if her singing in Benjamin Buttpn was actually her singing. I think my pick for director would be Clint Eastwood. He seems to get to the marrow of a story and he's a composer and jazz pianist with fine musical sensibilities. Just as a little side note, this is from the IMDB's biography for Judy Davis: 'Fellow Australian actress Cate Blanchett has often said Davis is her role model.' So I'm wondering: Did Joni extremely popularize the phrase, or was it already a well-known expression when she wrote "Woodstock"? Anyone know who said it first, or a least popularized it before La Joni? It's probably one of my favourite joni live performances .. its got a particular strength to it; her facial expressions, the lack of the guitar -and the various arms and body movements that that means-, the band, the dancing, the clothing... it's very special. And saw this "Joni Mitchell Klein" tag, which i had never seen before and came across as extremely odd.. i felt somewhat uncomfortable! weird... if you have, it's always the perfect time to watch this gem again!! if you haven't, please DO! http://jonimitchell.com/library/video.cfm?id=61 ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2010 #226 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe
