First off, it's no comedy, and second, though it's heartwarming to have a surprise discussion of the album "Blue" and even more to sing "All I want," the character who sings it is so unlikeable that it almost comes off unsatisfying. They could have easily made her likeable with one cameo cute, but were too lazy. Oh well. At least the likeable daughter is named after Joni. Just like Chelsea. Think the Clinton's listened to Joni's political stuff or did they just did their toe into a couple of hits? ________________________________ From: onlyJMDL Digest To: onlyjoni-digest@smoe.org Sent: Mon, August 2, 2010 3:00:11 AM Subject: onlyJMDL Digest V2010 #213 onlyJMDL Digest Monday, August 2 2010 Volume 2010 : Number 213 ========== TOPICS and authors in this Digest: - -------- What stands up - now what pumps you up [Laura Stanley ] Re: Toller Cranston [Mags ] Re: Toller Cranston [Anne Sandstrom ] Re: Clouds (now Big Yellow Taxi) [Susan Moss ] Re: Toller Cranston [Catherine McKay ] Joni on Twitter - Discographies [Melissa Gibbs ] Re: Joni on Twitter - - Discographies [Catherine McKay Subject: What stands up - now what pumps you up Hi Ya'll, I'm visiting Marianne, and the other day she wanted to hear Joni singing "I Shall Be Released" with Cass Elliot and Mary Travers. Once wasn't enough so we listened 3 or 4 times. This version of the song is like a drug. We thought of y'all and are wondering what song sung by Joni do you listen to like this that pump you up? Im a huge fan of Toller's skating as well as his heart. errrm I mean art...freudian slip there! The video of Joni and Toller skating to Hejira used to be on the Joni Mitchell web site...gorgeous thing it is. Toller stretched the limits in the world of ice skating, and his influence lives on. how wonderful that you met him in Mexico. He used to have a studio on Queen Street in Toronto, however, I dont know if it's still there. cheers, Mags - - --- On Sat, 7/31/10, Tejas4x4@aol.com wrote: From: Tejas4x4@aol.com Subject: Toller Cranston To: joni@smoe.org Received: Saturday, July 31, 2010, 7:58 PM Howdy Lister's: Does any one have information on who to contact at the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon to set up an art exhibition? i.e.you Canadian folks? I recently spent a week with Toller Cranston at his home in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico. As all of you probably know already; he is the ice skater in photo on the back of Joni's Hejira Album. His career evolved from artistic figure skater to artist painter. His art/oil painting is quite interesting and has an Asian/Mongolian feel, definitely original/unique. He has exhibits coming up this year in Toronto, Calgary and Winnipeg...I mentioned the Medel to him, Eyes wide he said "please get me some info, I would like to contact" I Googled the Mendel and you have to fill out a form to contact and probably goes to some admin desk - ugh - hate forms...I was hoping to provide Toller more of a direct connect to the Mendel. If you have any contact or info on the Mendel I can share with Toller, please -email me off list.. As far as the Scuddle Butt - Joni connection; All he shared with me was, Joni called him about the being a part of the Hejira album art- he replied " who are you" As in he didn't know who Joni Mitchell was. Wow was that a surprise to me!! He also said that he was also on the Mingus album, which I wasn't aware (maybe it got scratched) and that Joni got him addicted to Limos. That's the scoop... OMG!!!!! (THUD - sound of me falling on floor) At the height of Toller's amateur career, I was skating quite a bit (badly). My left knee will never be right after years of trying to emulate his sit spins. I LIVED for his performances. "Nicholas and Alexandra" and "Pagliacci" were my favorites. I totally embarassed myself at an Evening of Champions performance by getting him to autograph my program and then kissing him on the cheek (I was just so overwhelmed.) Please, please tell me anything, everything... When Hejira came out, I was home with the flu. The DJ said that there was a picture of a skater on the cover. I KNEW it was Toller, even without seeing the cover... lots of love, Anne - ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Aug 2010 14:21:55 -0400 From: Susan Moss Subject: Re: Clouds (now Big Yellow Taxi) Hey, All - I posted William's/Joe's Noctiluent Clouds link to my Facebook page... and received the following comment from Jonathan Byrd (a talented singer/songwriter in his own right): <> Very cool... on so many levels! - wondering how much they charge?
