I hope you're all enjoying the Sumer in the north and coping with the Winter in the south. I haven't written much lately because I am going through quite a tough time at the moment and apologise to those who I was writing to off list. I have been in talks with Les Irvin about the JMDL website. I was concerned about added cost but Les assures me that it doesn't cost any more to keep JMDL as well as www.jonimitchell.com Thank you to everyone who made comment on the subject and all of your suggestions have been taken on board by Les. Now comes the tricky part. Although the site will not cost Les any money, it is a huge investment in time. Mainly for the design rather than upkeep. Therefore, Les has proposed a similar contest as he did with www.jonimitchell.com which resulted in a beautiful, easily navigable site. The pay off is a link on every page for the designer which has, apparently lead to quite a bit of business for him. Thanks to those who have clicked on his links. My hobby is graphic design and I have had a little bit of business out of it but, although I have some technical savvy, I have not yet begun on learning web design yet. I have told Les that I am willing to lend my services in any way I am able to but, my expertise in web design is limited so, I ask that anyone who would like to submit a proposal for the new JMDL website to send their suggestions directly to Les. He needs to raise another $600 for this year's bill. The bill is due August 1st. Please make a donation this (and each) year to support the wonderful website we all enjoy. There is a PayPal button here: http://jonimitchell.com/donate.cfm with a mailing address as well. Everyone who contributes will receive a download link to obtain a set of recordings of Joni covers by JMDL members, many created especially for this fundraising drive. This is partly incentive to contribute and partly a way to share what we list members do musically, with Joni's music as the theme tying the songs together. Musicians: if you want to contribute a Joni cover for the set please do so, to me, by JULY 1st, one week away! Please note: Mp3s and AAC files are fine but cannot be mastered; they will go out exactly as received. If you send me WAV or AIFF files (via Yousendit or snail mail) I can do some mastering on them, if you wish. The songs from Holycombe Jonifest and Idyllwild Jonifest are already on my drive so if you want to submit one from those gatherings just let me know which. May be a pathway for some folks to discover Joni. I can say that I have discovered a couple of artists from hearing their songs in film. i am PROUD to say i discovered joni through a movie!! love actually, actually-- when i was fifteen or sixteen i think it was (now im 18 haha) that i got very intrigued about joni when emma thompson said >(now googling the quote) "Joni Mitchell is the woman who taught your cold English wife how to feel." effectively, both sides now was the background to the best scene in the movie and each time i see it, my eyes fill with tears at the memory of the first time i heard joni. the rest is history... now i echo e.thompson: "I love her and true love lasts a lifetime."
