Again! Hey Bob (and all), Well the show on Saturday went very well. The room had a good sound and a nice look (see my photo album on Facebook, just uploaded) and the music was great. Dave Curtis the bassist was on fire as usual during his solos and we now have Barry Cahill officially in the band, playing sax, flute and singing harmonies, so, with Britt Doehring, we now have 4 part vocals which really rocks on things like Down to You and Centerpiece. Robin sang the whole night with nary a lyric flub, always a feat when doing Joni music. We opened with "In France" which is a new addition to the repertoire and opened the second set with a few tunes from Blue: a nice funky California with Wurlitzer piano, and A Case of You, now featuring guitar, flute, piano and orchestration in the vein of the BSN version. Jungle Line was pretty throbbing and Barry did an admirable job of negotiating the trumpet paths on alto sax. We did my arrangement of BSN as a duo and segued into Dry Cleaner to finish. Down to You was pretty special although the house A/C unit decided to come up full blast right after the opening chords, and stayed on throughout. Ah well, live music is a can of worms. And speaking of worms, I could have eaten a plate of them I was so hungry. The setup and sound check took me five hours and then people started arriving and wanting to chat, and then I had to tune 5 guitars and go over little things. So by showtime I hadn't eaten a thing and felt myself getting quite spacey, which caused me to make lots of dumb mistakes on guitar. Very annoying as we were so rehearsed and I was really hoping for a glitch free performance from myself! As if that ever happens... CD sales were not spectacular as many people there already had copies, but we are getting closer to breaking even on the album, which in this day and age, might as well be a platinum hit. We shot video, which might have some good stuff on it though our video guy flew in from St.Paul to do it and he's so busy for the next few weeks he can't get going on it for a while. San Diego listers Lindsay Moon and Sue Glumac were there; many thanks to them for coming out. Sorry Kakki and Lesli weren't able to make it down from L.A. Next big date is August 28th at the Idyllwild Jazz Festival playing the main stage, ironically a couple of acts before Tom Scott doing a Coltrane tribute. The age of the tribute show. It would be ironic if he got there in time to hear us play some of his own arrangements. "No, no, no, you guys, I wrote an F#..." thanks, Dave - ------------------------------------------------- New CD available now! Again! Thanks as always for the plug Bob. Just as a FYI to potential CD buyers or downloaders: if you buy the album directly from the artist there is no middle man so the artist benefits the most from the sale. Digstation.com is a subsidiary of DiscMakers, as is CDBaby and is a download site for artists who manufacture with DiscMakers. As a perk they pay the artist 100% of the download price for about a year after release, which is, ahem, a lot better than itunes or Amazon. So, even though we're now up on all those bigger sites, we'd love to direct you to the place where we see the full amount of the sale.
