You could choose between Joni's arrangement or our very own Jenny Goodspeed's arrangement of the aong which is even better in my book< It may be sacrilege but, I have to agree. Jenny's cover of this song is actually an improvement on the original. She sings it with such power and vulnerability in her voice and the guitar playing is just so clear and dextrous. Jenny breathed new life into this song. I know that I'm as guilty as anyone, but I think it's human nature that we don't want to see the flaws and chinks in the armor of those that we DEEPLY admire, like Joni. But when it's all said and done, they are as human as we are. That's nice to hear from a longtime lister, and with your permission, I'll pass your comment on to Sheila. I was a bit hesitant to bring the subject up again because I know some people aren't comfortable with the discussion, and I completely understand that. But I also thought it would be good for folks to know where the story came from and how thoroughly it had been vetted. Enjoy the weekend! So, it was Dog Eat Dog. The album that most Joni fans hate/dislike. The one that most people think Joni's worst. The real beginning of "The Beginning of Survival" (6 of 16 tracks from her 2004's compilation are from this album -- and none from her pre-DED) The one that has many issues. (One said "Joni Mitchell used to be hot, but now she has too many issues") etc etc Rian NP. Joni - Tax Free PS. Everybody loves to make list. But usually, it's "my favorite list" or "my recommendation list". Let's make a list that cover one subject. Just like "The Beginning of Survival" CD that covers... well, the beginning of survival. Let's make a list that cover this topic : Love. New found love. 10 songs. I think it's quite challenging. Joni made many songs about love, but they're actually sad. As for me, Jungle Line used to be a song that I always avoid/skip. Its tribal sound is a bit difficult for me, a bit weird, sandwiched between rock&roll sound of In French They Kiss and the jazzy/film-noir-esque Edith and Kingpin. That's before I got the idea of the song. It was Herbie Hancock / Leonard Cohen cover (from Herbie's River The Joni Letter) that opened the door. My favorite? Sweet Bird, definitely! The words and the music are just perfect. And the last line is a mantra.
