[Azeem Ali Khan ] Re: Official Seattle ballet review... [Michael Paz ] RE: Official Seattle ballet review... ["patrick leader" Subject: Sally sings Joni (and a plea for sponsorship!) Hi folks, I've been meaning to delurk since Paul mentioned the gig in Camden on the 21st March. I'm intending to be there, partly because I'm curious to hear Joni's songs sung live - and let's face it, I'm not going to hear Her sing them! Does anyone (Paul?) know which songs she tackles? Also, I'm very familiar with Sally Barker, as I used to go and see her play live in the early 90s. She always put on a good show; she's a terrific guitarist as well as being a fine singer. Her own songs are a little variable in consistency, but at their best (especially an early one called Chains) they're very good indeed. I've also seen Debbie Cassell, in fact I think she opened for Sally a couple of times, and they shared a lead guitarist for a while, Martin Ansell. Who else is going? The plea for sponsorship, briefly: I'm doing a 50 mile bike ride in aid of Healthprom, a charity which supports vulnerable mothers and children in Tajikistan. It's this Sunday, the 7th. If anyone has a bit of dosh they can spare, you can donate here: http://www.justgiving.com/Azeem-Ali-Khan I think it's possible to donate from outside the UK - at least, my brother in Sydney managed it! My best to you, Azeem in London PS I agree about Robyne Dunne, Jerry - I had a listen on Spotify, on your recommendation, and she's very impressive. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Mar 2010 10:39:17 -0700 From: "Les Irvin" Subject: Official Seattle ballet review... I still don't even have the DVD. Trying to hold out and see it live somewhere. Almost got to go to LA. Flu still kicking my ass but I am better and fighting all the way. Thanks for this. What else would you expect from me? But writing all that down (or typing it all out, I should say) has certainly helped me in keeping a lasting memory of the ballet in my mind. Richard said it and I agree. Seeing the DVD is not the same experience as seeing the actual performance. It truly was an amazing, beautiful experience. If anyone has the patience to read through the whole thing, I'd love your feedback. Some of my 'theories' about meanings, transition and so forth are probably all wrong. I really would love to read some other opinions. I hope I gave you some idea of what it was like, Paz. I really hope you get the chance to see it some day. And thanks for writing.
