As a native Dutch speaker, it was of course extra interesting for me, but there's enough English content (Joni speaking) to make it of interest to all readers. If anyone needs any more of the Dutch translated, do let me know. Bob, would you happen to have noted down the playlist of Joni's favourites? That would be nice to share. I know, as the Dutch saying goes, one fool can ask more in one day than 10 wise men can answer in a year, but this lazy fool can try, right? All the best, Lieve in London - --------- Date: Sat, 6 Feb 2010 07:33:16 -0800 (PST) From: Bob Muller Subject: 1988 Interview for Dutch radio with Hubert van Hoof Hello fellow Joni fans, and happy weekend to all! Thanks to our good friend Monica in Amsterdam I have the audio for an interview that Joni did in 1988 with Hubert van Hoof. I'm not sure exactly when the interview took place, but this was broadcast on September 6, 1988. It's very similar to the "My Top 12" broadcast Joni did in 1983 where she talks about her influences and favorite songs. Hubert speaks Dutch (of course), but Joni does the majority of the talking and plays lots of cool music. Even if you don't know Dutch you will find lots to enjoy. A lot of the same folks we've heard her talk about but some new stuff too. It runs 58 minutes. Hubert said of the experience: "I met Joni Mitchell at the Amstel Hotel. Due to a delay of TV shootings, my own radio interview was likely not to take place. Suddenly she came downstairs and asked if I wanted to have our conversation in her room while having lunch. And so we did and she talked not only about her favorite songs, but also about her spiritual experiences, which we happened to have in common." The piano above it just has reverb. I have the standard issue Geffen CD (not boxed set) and it's clearly audible. It's not LP wow. Great footage (which has "remained vaulted for the past 35 years, unused, unseen, until now") of James Brown, BB King, Bill Withers (wow! made me cry!), Celia Cruz and The Fania All stars, Miriam Makeba, The Spinners and more - and Muhammad Ali too. Particularly love the performance of 'Put It Where You Want It" by The Crusaders featuring Joni accompanists Larry Carlton, Joe Sample, Wilton Felder and Wayne Henderson - it's on YouTube here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6E0pvf8cDp4 Such a great movie!! very best to all PaulC ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Feb 2010 11:33:16 -0800 From: Corey Blake Subject: Re: Soul Power (vljc) That's awesome, thanks! Do they have Bill Withers' performance on YouTube? I'd love to hear that. I think he is great, very underrated. - -Corey On Wed, Feb 10, 2010 at 10:24 AM, Paul Castle wrote: > Just been watching a DVD of the recently released > documentary film 'Soul Power' - about the 1974 > music festival in Zaire which was set up to coincide > with Muhammad Ali and George Foreman's Rumble > in the Jungle . > > Great footage (which has "remained vaulted for the > past 35 years, unused, unseen, until now") of James > Brown, BB King, Bill Withers (wow! made me cry!), > Celia Cruz and The Fania All stars, Miriam Makeba, > The Spinners and more - and Muhammad Ali too. > > Particularly love the performance of 'Put It Where You > Want It" by The Crusaders featuring Joni accompanists > Larry Carlton, Joe Sample, Wilton Felder and Wayne > Henderson - it's on YouTube here - > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6E0pvf8cDp4 > > Such a great movie!! > > very best to all > PaulC > - -- - --------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.CoreyBlake.com - a whole lot of me Do you Dig Comics? http://www.digcomics.com Mailing List - http://coreyblake.googlepages.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Feb 2010 03:11:22 +0000 From: c Karma Subject: re: Joni on VHS mc wrote: A very kind Joni fan has stepped forward to work on the VHS tape of the 2000 Rosie O'Donnell show with Joni.
