Catherine, a few days ago I was involved with a list discussion about politics and was bemoaning the fact that young people didn't seem to me to be angry enough about the state of things. The old adage about being careful about you wish for, or perhaps what you moan about, had an interesting consequence. I had been talking off list to Rachel about Joni's illness. Of course, 'little' Rachel has a special place in my heart because I got into Joni when I was 14 and Rachel was just 14 when I met her (and you) and she played and sang at Joni Fest in 2003 and we jammed along to 'Woodstock'. As a young person, Rachel is out there with others protesting about the environmental impact the Vancouver Games (whom she says were supposed to tbe greenest games) is having on the environment and the indigenous peoples. She wonders if Joni had all the latest information on environmental impact before F&D was included in the Cultural Olympiad. Rachel has sent me lots of links to information. One about the organisation she is involved in is 'No Olympics on Stolen Land: http://www.peaceculture.org/drupal/node/455 I personally have been involved in the Olympic movement and am a published member of the International Society of Olympic Historians, so really feel passionate about the higher values the Olympiad brings. I have been deeply moved by seeing the Olympic flame at many Olympics and have seen shared great joy with people from all over the world as the flame has passed by. To those of us who love the Olympics, the flame carries Hope. However, corporate greed and corruption still prominently figures in the Olympic movement. Corruption, cheating and greed killed the Ancient Games. Nothing much changes. However, Rachel is out there feeling passionate enough about people and the planet to take to the streets and, it seems from her email, taking quite a lot of abuse for it. My heart is both with her, her fellow protestors, those who are aggrieved, the animals who may have lost their habitats, but also with those who have looked forward to the Games for so long. Gwen Simmons has enlighten those that need to know about the disease. I have contacted my source at the CDC and I was given the name of a private doctor that is the best. This doctor is providing most of the data to the CDC. I have contacted Gwen Simmons with name of the doctor and I hope that all patients with the disease find comfort and a final CURE. ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2010 #28 ******************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe
