I think it made '80s music that may have been otherwise forgettable, much more memorable. Songs which we may not have given a second listen to became stuck in our heads because of clever film making. Songs which were way too cryptic for most people to bother to try to understand became clearer in light of their video interpretations. Music videos enhance a song for me and sometimes extend their life or they can be appreciated separately for their cinematography or clever techniques. The visual interpretations of some of Joni's songs have brought new appreciation for those songs for me. Come In From The Cold is cinematic and nostalgic. Good Friends was technologically advanced and stuck in my head. It reminds me a bit of Peter Gabriel's, Digging In The Dirt. The Beat of Black Wings is like a mini movie and really gets Joni's point across about Vietnam vets. My Secret Place was a bit lame, with Joni inanely smiling across a table and fluttering a napkin in front of her face to Peter Gabriel. I still wish that was on the video compilation just for completion. The Dancin' Clown video was cute and gave a candid view of Joni's kitchen (and house slippers). Nothing Can Be Done actually had David Baerwald in the clip which was a treat. That also gave me a new appreciation for the song and inspired my wallpaper for that song. What do others think?
