Stills' impromptu performance was amazing. On one hand, it is incredible because we all know it takes practice to get songs sounding good and finished and such. On the other hand, it is not that surprising that it did sound as good as it did because reading the stories from those days, Stills (and Crosby and Nash and Joni of course) were no strangers to just going over a friend's house, strumming a guitar, and singing a tune. That is something that I always envied about their musical community. I know I can't pick my guitar up and go to my neighbor's house and just start playing in such a friendly and open manner. It seemed like the normal, common thing at the time. We've all heard the stories of songs starting at someone's house and so forth. - -M - --- On Tue, 12/15/09, PassScribe@aol.com wrote: And thanks, Lieve, for reposting the Dick Cavitt Show clip. Yes, I think Dick was joking but probably did have a genuine concern for the guys since all news reports had told of the miserable conditions at the festival & problems getting in and out. And, yes, Joni certainly was sorry she wasn't there, IMO. You know, I've seen that segment many times over the years but, watching it again now, I am STILL blown away by Stills' impromptu acoustic performance of "4 & 20"... goosebumps on my arms & dampness in my eyes. Amazing fekkin' stuff! (1969... it was a very good year.)
