I am pasting the video details back in for ease of reference. A new video has been added to the Library at JoniMitchell.com: Just Like This Train - Bethel, New York 1998 View it here: http://jonimitchell.com/library/video.cfm?id=171 My question: I saw the "JMDL 'heart' Joni" banner on this clip. As this dates back to 1998, is there any more info on who was involved at the time? Any of the people who hung up this banner and are still around now, who would like to tell us more about it? A new video has been added to the Library at JoniMitchell.com: Commentary on Woodstock Festival - Crosby, Stills & Nash and Dick Cavett 1969 View it here: http://jonimitchell.com/library/video.cfm?id=172 My reaction: Oh My God! Did you hear what I just heard? That guy Dick Cavett seems to ask people who have just come back from Woodstock, including Stills and Crosby: "Do your parents all know where you are?" When they react with laughter, he tries again: "I mean this semi-serious. Do any of you..." and I get the feeling he was going to ask: "Do any of you still live with your parents?" when he gets drowned out by someone saying "Oh please!" and he gives up. Anybody else as surprised as me about the way these musicians were still treated like kids? I mean, yes in 1969 in my teens, my parents still wanted to know where I was (even though I started resenting it too), but that is just not what you ask Californian musicians in their twenties on American TV - or IS IT????? A new video has been added to the Library at JoniMitchell.com: Interview With Author Shelia Weller - Girls Like Us - Photos 2009 View it here: http://jonimitchell.com/library/video.cfm?id=173 My reaction: I was moved by what Sheila Weller said, even though it was a promotional clip. It is so true, "girls like us" really often had further to go than a lot of boys that I knew. And we bloody well did it! I think I'm going to show this to my sons. They really can't imagine how far we've come... Thank you, Sheila, for putting the spotlight on this aspect for a while. I got the feeling when he said that that he was being very tongue-in-cheek and funny, he would have been fully aware that these folks were independent of their parents. I don't KNOW that for sure, but it's the vibe I picked up when I saw the clip. Also one of the more moving Joni performances out there - I think part of that is the heartbreak she was feeling at not having been a part of the festival and seeing that CSN made it out and to the show just fine. I think Muller is right: Dick Cavett had a very witty and dry, even sarcastic, way about him, so I'm absolutely convinced that he was saying this humourously. I used to love Dick Cavett for that reason. He could get away with saying things with his drawly kind of voice that other people would never be able to say, and his humour was often so dry that it would probably go right over a lot of heads. P.S. I'm pretty sure that, if my parents were still alive, they'd STILL want to know where I was going and who I was going with. My mother was always passing judgement on my fashion style (or lack thereof), even when I was well into my 30s and beyond. (She don't like my kick-pleat skirt; she don't like my eyelids painted green - but I was not a fashion Queen! There, I made it rhyme!) ________________________________ From: "Bob.Muller@Fluor.com" To: Lieve Reckers Cc: jonipeople LIST Sent: Wed, December 9, 2009 11:17:35 AM Subject: Re: new videos in the JM library Dick Cavett was pretty hip and cutting edge in his day...hence the Woodstock performers being on his show in the first place.
