I knew it was going to be great. Kristin Barardi has the greatest voice and I just loved her versions of Dry Cleaner from Des Moines and Be Cool. Little Green was probably one of the highlights of the evening again by Kristin Barardi. Tania was as good as I have ever heard her perform and is probably the most talented as a musician of that group of women. The band were quite good. I did say to my brother the difference between a classically trained musician and a muso is that without music the clasically trained are lost whilst a muso plays from the heart;. This was evident during For Free and again in woodstock. I though the pianist struggled a little with his timing. It was evident that most of the musicians were playing from paper not heir hearts. We can't all be hardened fans. I did have a blast and hearing David Crosby doing Tamalpais High (about 3pm) and Laughing during intermission kept me from venturing out of such a magnificenet hall. I just love the acoustics of that hall. Didi you get any more takers for jonifest? Did Alberta enjoy as I know you did? Shame we didn't get to meet up with Melissa. Glad she enjoyed it as much as she did. Cheers Don ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Nov 2009 22:13:36 +1100 From: Mark-Leon Thorne Subject: Shiny Toys Could this be the Kevorkian Mix of Shiny Toys that you are referring to? There is some extra rap from Dolby on that version. Mark in Sydney ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Nov 2009 11:28:27 +0000 From: Garret Subject: Re: Vote for Joni! Well Patti, i cast my vote. It was not easy to pick, but my top five from that list were Joni, Jeff Buckley, Nina Simone, Janis Joplin, and Tom Waits. It was a very close cut for Maria Callas, Edith Piaf, Bob Dylan, and Leonard Cohen. I also considered Karen Carpenter and Aretha. I was impressed with the scope of the list, it wasn't your standard Rolling Stone list. I did not know half of them. My choices seem quite obvious;-) Come on people now.... vote for Joni. I too have cast my vote. Joni, Jeff Buckley, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Asha Bhosley, and Edith Piaf. Yeah, I prefer female singers. Done, for you Patti. Some of those choices were, instead of my first thought (laughable) interesting. The omissions were even more shocking. I read the parameters two or three times and picked the ones I thought were the closest. That last pick was tough. Streisand, Garland, Joplin, Karen Carpenter, and of course Joni. mack ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Nov 2009 07:17:06 -0800 (PST) From: Michael Flaherty Subject: Re: Vote for Joni! My top 5: Joni Billie Holiday Johnny Hartman Judy Garland k. d. lang I was a bit surprised that neither Joan Baez nor Judy Collins made the cut. Grace Slick wasn't there either but that wasn't so much of a surprise.
