Karen O'Brien's *Shadows and Light *has it that a young Joni went to see *The Story of Three Loves* with her pal Frankie McKitrick and heard Rachmaninov's "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini." Joni is quoted as saying it was "the most beautiful melody I'd ever heard," and it made her want to play the piano. The Andersons bought one for her shortly thereafter. I've never seen the film. Hmmmm, James Mason . . . it's about to start here in CST. I'll give it a listen. ;-) Terra On Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 10:04 PM, Mark Scott wrote: > This movie is airing on TMC at 12:15 am Pacific time. Cant see any interest for any young people in this show. mike in bcn NP Siouxsie and the Banshees - Hong Kong Garden ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Oct 2009 11:03:12 EDT From: Gertus@aol.com Subject: Desert Island Discs and Joni In a message dated 13/10/2009 08:04:55 GMT Daylight Time, owner-joni-digest@smoe.org writes: PS I just saw Joe Farrell's message about Desert Island Disk. Joe, I don't think this programme can be listened to again on BBCi. As far as I know, if you miss it on the Sunday, you have one more chance to hear the repeat on the following Friday morning, and that's it. But please let me know if there is another way, I would be very interested! Lieve, Good news! As from last week, Desert Island Discs is available on the i-player so anyone who would like to here the Steve Coogan one can do so. Incidentally, some time ago I decided it would be a good project to produce a list of Joni tracks played on this long running program. I found it quite hard information to find and soon ran out of time and inclination. Here's what I have so far and if anyone can contribute more, I would be interested. River - Renee Fleming - 18/11/05 Sometimes I'm Happy - Sir Simon Rattle - Jan 08 For Free - David Gilmore 6/4/? Night Ride Home- Nick Hornby - 28/09/? Help Me - Sebastian Faulks - 28/3/09 Shades of Scarlet Conquering - Jack Vettriano ? California - Steve Coogan - 11/10/09 I'm sure there are many more. Go to BBC website click on radio four and it is there on BBCi. It used to be there was a problem with performing rights/copyright or some thing of that nature. That apparently has now been resolved. So enjoy. Regards, Joe. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Oct 2009 20:23:58 -0500 From: Steve Petrica Subject: Free people in Paris... I've recently been reading the "restored edition" of Hemingway's "A Moveable Feast", his memoir of life in Paris in the 1920's. The other day I came across this passage, in a chapter about the "secret pleasures" of being in love in Paris: >>That is the sort of happiness you should not tinker with but nearly everyone you knew tried to adjust it. Once we were back from Canada where I decided that I would do no more newspaper work even if I starved and we lived as savages and kept our own tribal rules and had our own customs and our own standards, secrets, taboos and delights. We were free people now in Paris...<< Sound familiar? Was Joni reading "A Moveable Feast" when she wrote the song? (Or is this well known, and I've just been in the dark all along?) First of all I apologize for my cheap ass camera, but there are some really good shots (OK JUST A FEW THE ONES OF BOB) and at least I shot everybody I could so there is some sort of documentation of what happened in the mountains on that weekend not so long ago. I included them all warts, moles, sore holes etc. just so we could have them. Delene who apparently knew SOMEBODY had a front row seat and had a much better camera got amazing shots are the Vol 3 set. Meanwhile I was stuck in the peanut gallery amongst some very beautiful women (NO LESS), so I did the best I could between MARGARITAS (oH thaTs WhAt It wAs!) You can see them on my FACEBOOK thingy if you are a inner circle person or not. I am simply Michael Paz and should recognize me mug if you look for me on the DREADED Facebook thingy. I have 3 volumes so far with one to follow. Vol 3 foto credit goes to Delene who downloaded her stuff on my puter. Some of her fotos I think were videos so they are askew cause I could not edit them. When I have a bit more time I will try and sort out the madness. Until then enjoy all you Joni Monsters and stay tuned for PAZFEST 2010 (the ten year anniversary) and the introduction of the Mutts of the Planet to the City of New Orleans (that is just a plain frightening concept). Already the plans are in the making and trying to decide on weekends. Love you guys and wish I was back in somebody's garden.
