My favourite thing about him is that he's very hot. He has a really good singing voice and some decent songs. In concert, he was charming, funny, and did a great version of All I Want, not to mention leading a singalong of Molly Malone. I would find it a stretch of somewhat extravagant proportions to call him dazzlingly talented Jerry, but it's in the eye (eh, ear) of the beholder (on another note, i do adore the phrase dazzlingly talented and i'm going to overuse it for the next while ;- ). I know there are many that would agree with you. I would like to hear his next album of originals. There is something appealing in his songs, but most of them just don't stick with me. Also, i'm unclear who makes the comparison mentioned in the nyc article between him and Rufus Wainwright. These people have clearly never listened to both artists. They are both male and they are both, as far as i can tell, gay. For me, it ends there. Rufus is in a league of his own. (in fairness though, i did not read the article so i have no idea what is actually said). He is putting himself in with some hefty talent if he is comparing himself to either Tracy Chapman or Joni Mitchell. Of course, Joni makes the odd comparison that raises a thought. To class Joni as a sad and angry woman misses a number of points, i think. It misses the humour in her music and it misses the power of simple reflection and observation. It also tars over many subtle emotional variations that are present in Joni's music, even when she might be in broadly sad or angry territory. I'm not intending to sound too harsh or critical here. Apologies if it reads that way. GARRET On 9/23/09, Gerald Notaro wrote: > I met Jay here in Florida at a special screening of Shortbus, along with the > leads and John Cameron Mitchell. Well, since we've all (minus 30) been sleeping on the pillows of our wanderlust for (the urge for going to) Idyllwild with our brothers and sisters, let me interrupt the sorrow with another little Joni in the workplace "love is a story told". Yesterday a child came out to wonder....our new student worker came in to my office to tell me that he woke up to the beautiful sounds of an acoustic guitar being played by a girl outside his window. (I don't think she was nebulous and naked! LOL!) Then he said: "It made me think of you!" (Huh? I don't play guitar, but I guess by now, after three weeks, he knows very well that I love a woman who DOES!). Bright as a neon light, I said: "Steven! You just had a Chelsea Morning! Do you know what that is?" He shook his head so.....it was off to Youtube for Chelsea Morning in Morning UConn Town! And the first one that I saw was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2dicRl4eAc&feature=related Or better yet, Mullerized: http://tinyurl.com/cjyp9z (I'm playing it again now and singing it. Right out loud! I've never seen this particular one before. It's a beauty!) So, Steven stood there and watched the whole thing, mouth agape. He was either marveling at our Joan, or just dumbstruck at his crazy boss. I said: "Listen! Woke up it was a Chelsea morning and the first things that I heard was a SONG OUTSIDE MY WINDOW! See what I mean? You had a Chelsea Morning!" When the song was over I took him to my window so we could see the passers-by and papers fly, etc. I also told him that Chelsea Clinton was named after this song, and you know there may be more that I told him. We've decided that I will play him a different Joni youtube every morning, because you know.... life is for learning about Joni. Alors, bon weekend, tout le Joni monde. If we can't be physically in Idyllwild, we can be there in spirit. Just like Joni at Woodstock! We are stardust, we are golden. We can shine on Idyllwild, and it can mirror us back, simplified. OH! Speaking of SHINE! It was released today, September 25th. Was it two years ago, only? I remember doing the whole three hours in Starbucks to put on the day. It's a high holy day. Holiday. It's a jolly holiday with you, Joni, no wonder that's it Joni that we love. And we all shine on, like the judgement of the moon and the stars and the sun.... xo, Patti P. in Friday Flip City "If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace." -- John Lennon http://www.imaginepeace.com/ _________________________________________________________________ Bing brings you maps, menus, and reviews organized in one place. My cellphone rang in the ole workplace and it was Jeannie! Bless her for calling. She dialed in the number of someone bound to love her...of course that could be any of us! (NPIMH: He comes for conversation.......) And then Sue got on, and Musik Meister Muller, and Lindsay, and Cassy. (I may have mixed up the order...) It's the first time I have ever spoken w/ Jeannie and Sue and Lindsay! Thrillsville! They are having a BLAST! (Was anyone worried? LOL!) It's just as natural as the weather in that beautiful sky today. I can just imagine how it feels to be there and another car pulls up, and out comes....who is it this time??? Another JMDL star, walking the red carpet! "And the hits just keep on comin'!" "All alone, in Connecticut, and talking to you...." sending out anything for us all to grow and feed on... Keep the reports coming, everyjonibody! We're very hungry now, for a sweeter fare....whatever crumbs you can throw us.
