It reminded me of what I loved about this song myself in my youth. Over the years the circle Game has lost it's appeal to me but hearing those kids singing it brought tears to my eyes and brought back to mind all those New Years when my ma would ask me to sing it for her.I think it is a song children relate to very well indeed. Beautiful. Thankyou. I too would love to know if there's any footage of this performance. That day in Edmonton was one of the most incredible of my life and I met up with some wonderful people whom I have often wondered are on the list at all ... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Sep 2009 12:44:04 -0400 From: Susan McNamara Subject: UGH! I meant Troubadours of Folk 1993 I feel like an ass, but at least we had some great reminiscing about the Edmonton Folk Festival. My quest is to find the video/audio of her singing "Last Chance Lost" in 1993 live right before TI came out. I just realized (looking for something else) that the concert is actually Troubadours of Folk at UCLA in 1993. Here is the description from Simon's chronology: 1993.06.05 Troubadours of Folk-Drake Stadium, UCLA Westwood, CA Joni, in her first solo concert in twenty-one years, headlined a show that featured Judy Collins, Arlo Guthrie, Jefferson Starship, Roger McGuinn, John Prine, Eric Andersen and others. One of her songs was later broadcast nationwide on the PBS program Troubadours Of Folk but was not included on the commercially released videotape and laserdisc of the same name. So there actually is footage somewhere .... ___________________ /___________________\ ||-------------------|| || Sue McNamara || || sem8@cornell.edu || ||___________________|| || O etch-a-sketch O || \___________________/ "It's all a dream she has awake." - Joni Mitchell ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Sep 2009 10:06:53 -0700 From: Corey Blake Subject: Clouds credits Hello Joni-ites, What is Joni playing on "Roses Blue" from Clouds? Is that a sitar? Sounds like a bit of studio distortion but it doesn't sound like a guitar unless it's tuned really high. Any ideas? Also on "Chelsea Morning" is she playing dulcimer as well as guitar, or is it just guitar? Aside from background/harmony vocals on "Chelsea Morning", "The Gallery" and "Songs to Aging Children Come", I think everything else is strictly acoustic guitar and vocals. Although, strictly vocals on "The Fiddle and the Drum". Everything by Joni (which has always impressed me - to be able to create on your own a completely captivating album of songs). I love knowing these little details about albums - who plays what on each song. What can I say? I'm odd. I meant Troubadours of Folk 1993 I know that I've seen some of that video, I forget if it was "Last Chance Lost" or exactly what song. The audio has been in our collections for awhile; it's a great show. Maybe it'll be some of the DVD material on the upcoming November boxset. I'm dying for a tracklist.
