In particular I like how the lyrics in the chorus really do fit the music, much like trumpets and trombones, in fact. What a neat little song. It sounds like it could have come from "The Music Man" - sort of "76 Trombones" meets "'Til there was you." - -------------------------------------------------- "Love Is Like A Big Brass Band" by Joni Mitchell - -------------------------------------------------- For our first time together I wanted everything to be just right I prayed for good weather For we were going to a concert in the park that night I wanted violins and sweet romantic melodies But when the band began to play It didn't turn out quite that way For there were trumpets and trombones making sad sounds and glad tones And notes that I will never understand And there were tin horns and oboes and saxophone solos Now you know and I know love is like a big brass band We wasted no time now, we planned a wedding for the first of June Hear the wedding bells chime now And see the folks all watching for the bridge and groom Waiting for violins and sweet romantic melodies But when we started down the aisle You should have seen the preacher smile For there were trumpets and trombones making sad sounds and glad tones And notes that I will never understand And there were tin horns and oboes and saxophone solos Now I know and you know love is like a big brass band __________________________________________________________________ Yahoo! But I guess if it were included in Song To A Seagull, it wouldn't follow her themes and would feel like 'filler'. And if anything, Joni doesn't do filler. But I just found this out. http://www.time.com/time/covers/0,16641,19741216,00.html The photo is (IMO) very Court-and-Spark-esque. After all it's 1974. I believe this is the only time Joni appeared on TIME's cover. Soooo 70's. And it's so red/pink. The website also has the archive of the articles. Just search "Joni Mitchell" on the box. Very lavish. Anyway, I have a feeling Joni is not a fan of the color red/pink. Those 2 colors very seldom appear on her paintings or her album covers (except DJRD where it's orangeish-red and blueish-cyan). Cheers. Maybe she could include that on the forthcoming box set (she said wistfully.) I'm refraining from anything MJ today. I saw the words "gold coffin" and just knew I had to stay away from the whole media circus, because it really brings out the worst in me. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Jul 2009 11:24:29 -0700 From: "Randy Remote" Subject: Joni The Dog Rolling Stone 7-9-09 (Jonas Bros cover) Close-Up "Mandy Moore, Born Again" ......
