All kidding aside, thanks for this *potentially* exciting news, Les. Unfortunately in interviews Joni's concept of a boxed set is simply a collection of stuff that has already been released. I hope that's not the case here so I will remain cautiously optimistic. And of course I sent in my liner note... > > There will be liner notes from those of us who truly love her work. I had been hoping for something more like the Neil Young archives. Aren't there very early live sets that we have been asked not to share as they might see an official release? Isn't it the case that Joni has not left too many extra tracks/out takes lying around? Alternate versions? Are we talking the hissing demos here? I'll pay for those although i already have the bootleg. I would love to hear the whole of Dreamland from the end of PWWAM. I will be interested to see the track listing. I'm not particularly interested in what other people say about Joni's music so the liner notes idea has little appeal for me, but will be happy to see any JMDL names i recognise in the liner notes. I would be interested in something lengthy written by Joni. That sounds much grouchier than it's supposed to;-) GARRET On Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 4:23 AM, Rian Afriadi wrote: > Anyway, the painting on JM.com on liner notes section is soooo beautiful. A set like the Geffen box with a new track or two on each disc adding up to less than album for lots of money? I would personally, with regrets, have to pass. And yes, part of me always resents that a bit. (I did buy the Geffen box, but as I had only one of the 4 albums on CD at the time, and my Joni vinyl is well-played, it felt worth it.) I don't have time to share them ALL, but here are some frequent ones of late. Whenever anyone shines on Wall Street or talks about the economy or bailouts or cold blue steel automakers out of money, from the mirrors of a modern bank, I start spouting: "The greed is the unraveling, I tell you it's the unraveling." OR "Money, money, money... Money makes the trees come down It makes mountains into molehills Big money kicks the wide wide world around." Joni nails it again, and again. "I don't care too much for money. Money can't by me love." ; ) BUT, it *will* buy the new boxed set, and I will be first in line, hoping there are many liner-notes from JMDLers ("the people who truly like the music") -- and maybe one from me, the JMOCDed chirp! (Ooh! A good one just popped into my heart and mind. And you know, there may be more.) Bon weekend, tout le Jonimonde! xo, pp, unraveling a bit myself after all the death and death and death and death. Rest in heavenly peace Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson, along with all of our beloved friends and kin who have gone before you. "When at last by life released, your spirits shine like stars." Shine on. P.S. I always want to put two "l's" in traveling or unraveling, but Joni taught me the right spelling. Yet another lesson in survival. ; ) Ya gotta save the "l's" for "rolling, rolling, rock and rolllllllllllllllllING!" I feel like a gold nugget has been uncovered. Don't know if Stephen E remembers but she described several paintings she was working on when we talked with her at lunch way back in September 2001 and this was one of the paintings she described! I'm always excited to see new Joni paintings unveiled. Wish she would have another exhibit. As for contributing to the liner notes, I wish someone would search 12 years of digests and find my best line to add LOL I feel like I've already essentially said it all about her, ad infinitum, heehee. There's lots of live material out there, but as far as "studio outtakes," just what's out there besides Carnival in Kenora, Hunter, and the elusive alternate Mingus? Possibly the guitar version of Shadows and Light? I sent in my liner note suggestion as well. Hope it gets included!
