For those of you who may not be familiar with the work of Emily Carr, here is a link to some of her work in the Vancouver Art Gallery. She is iconic in the Canadian Art scene, like Tom Thompson or the Group of Seven. I especially like Carr's pottery and her later paintings from the 1930's. You can DEFINITELY see Carr's influence on Joni's art - matter of fact I would be hard-pressed to tell you what was Emily's and what was Joni's if they were side-by-side. It's kind of a Canadian cliche to talk about the Group of Seven and a lot of us were smacked over the head with it as kids, to the point where I got tired of it. But when you see the real paintings and not reproductions in some book, it means so much more. Even though Emily Carr wasn't one of that group, her work is similar, and I like it more than the Group of Seven's stuff. - --- On Tue, 6/9/09, Mags wrote: sorry , i forgot to add the link http://www.mcmichael.com/exhibitions/efg/indexpast.cfm it's a beautiful gallery set back off the road, surrounded by coniferous trees mostly, cathedral ceilings and one of the most wonderful places to visit canadian art works ... still waking up, me ;-) __________________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
