As usual, she puts her foot in it in a couple of places. But the interviewer asked intelligent questions and it's always interesting to find out what Joni has to say. And I have to say I agree with a lot of what she says. I don't think of Joni as just another singer/songwriter. She pushed past the pop songwriter category long ago. As pretentious as it may sound, I think she is truly an artist and not a craftsman. I especially like the last line when Harcourt asked about her next project: "I have other ideas." So good to hear she's in a musically creative groove again and still following her own path. I'm afraid that I prefer Joni's paintings to those of Emily Carr's. Perhaps it's just the reproduction of them that doesn't do them justice. Yes it does have the hints that there will be another album. And one that she's planning as opposed to just going in to the studio and writing it there and then. But we'll see. It's sounds like that she's inspired again. I wonder if she can find another way to get her music out there. Can she iTunes it or something? 'The kids are gypping us out of our retirement fund' is an interesting quote. I love the fact that Joni just dives in there and puts her feet in it. Unlike her cigarettes, she should be unfiltered. And I'm debating whether to forward her comment about the Shakespearean sonnets on to some actor friends of mine. That was interesting. I thought it was a waste of time for the interviewer to ask her about radio. It doesn't take a visionary to realize they've just about formatted themselves out of existence. I think a more interesting question would've been to ask her about musical distribution through the internet, iTunes, internet radio. That sort of thing. Otherwise, yeah it was a good interview. Always love hearing her thoughts. - -Corey On Jun 7, 2009, at 4:16 PM, Mark Scott wrote: > Interesting interview. As usual, she puts her foot in it in a > couple of places. I suspect that he was paid for this by the young man's parents. The debate after this starts off at to whether Shakespeare was gay, as the sonnets start talking about the young man after a while. Not sure if they were *all* commissioned works, though, Joni. Times Sorry of this has already been posted (I'm on digest) but there is a very interesting, and, dare I say, pithy ;-) interview of Joni by Nic Harcourt in the L.A. Times magazine today. The ballet is coming to the U.S. (and UCLA) in 2010 and Joni is sounding like she is highly sparked creatively these days. She also says there's another album iin her - that we all hope will materialize in the near future! I couldn't find a link but hopefully someone has found it and posted. It's vintage Joan!
