I don't know anything about ballet except two years ago my brother brought me to a ballet performance (very modern) at Duke University when I was visiting. It was so beautiful it was hard to explain how I was feeling after it was over. So even though I was watching the ballet on TV I had the bonus of knowing Joni's music to enhance the experience. Here's some random thoughts: * After a while I began to call the circular image over the stage Magritte's eye. I found out in the extras section of the DVD that she called it the Cyclops! I thought the imagery of the film worked beautifully with the dancers and was not a distraction at all. * My favorite pieces were Passion Play and For the Roses although all the performances were incredible especially IF at the end. I'm embarrassed I haven't listened to Shine that much. Her guitar playing on that song is incredible! (duh!) * I was very happy there were two songs from Chalk Mark in a Rainstorm (3 great stimulants and Beat of Black Wings). Has there been a thread lately of how underrated that album is? * The little girl was so wonderful - of course I was calling her Kilauren. I wonder if that was her idea or the choreographer's? I know I'm preaching to the choir here but this is yet another testament to Joni's amazing creativity that she could master yet another medium. I have to go back and listen to Shine and Chalk Mark in a Rainstorm. I've been obsessing on Court & Spark for the past month. :) Take care, Sue ___________________ /___________________\ ||-------------------|| || Sue McNamara || || sem8@cornell.edu || ||___________________|| || O etch-a-sketch O || \___________________/ "It's all a dream she has awake." - Joni Mitchell ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 May 2009 16:59:55 -0700 (PDT) From: Em Subject: slight Joni ref in TV series "Southland" in last episode of season, main character young LA cop dude describes new GF as a cross between Joni Mitchell and kd lang.
