It begins We are stardust, we are golden, we are billion year old carbon. So wrote Joni Mitchell in her Woodstock anthem 40 years ago. I was going to add my memories of Joni's January 29, 1974 concert at Constitution Hall, and I checked trhe release date for Cour and Spark which is listed as April 1974: http://jonimitchell.com/music/album.cfm?id=7 But this can't be right. It was released in January. Dylan's Planet Waves was released January 17, 1974 (my 19th birthday) and I believe Court & Spark was released the same day. I do remember I bought them both at the same time and that I had already listened to C & S before I saw the concert on the 29th. I also recall that Planet Waves was disappointing to me and that I kept C & S on the turntable instead. Can anyone confirm the exact release date: These were the first three releases on the newly consolidated Elektra/Asylum: Asylum 7E/EQ 1001 - Court And Spark - Joni Mitchell [1974] Elektra 7E/EQ 1002 - Hotcakes - Carly Simon [1974] Asylum 7E/EQ 1003 - Planet Waves - Bob Dylan With The Band [1974] Richard ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Apr 2009 17:42:34 -0500 From: T Peckham Subject: Court and Spark release date? Sheila Weller in *Girls Like Us*, p. 416, has it being released in January '74. Weller also mentions *Planet Waves*. Here's a link (I can't remember how to do that tiny url thing) to Jon Landau's RS review of February 28th, '74. And if that's not sufficient, one could always contact Joel Bernstein. ;-) T http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/jonimitchell/albums/album/242711/review/19519866/court_and_spark On Fri, Apr 10, 2009 at 3:53 PM, Richard Flynn wrote: > I was going to add my memories of Joni's January 29, 1974 concert at > Constitution Hall, and I checked trhe release date for Cour and Spark which > is listed as April 1974: > > http://jonimitchell.com/music/album.cfm?id=7 > > > > But this can't be right. I just love the interview with Joni called "the education of Joni Mitchell", where she talks about reading 3 books: "The disorderly mind","the painted word", and I forget the other book... Joni talks about how reading is sometimes a mystical process, that she feels like she is *meant* to read a paticular passage from certain books, at a paticular time, and connect them with each other... this is what happened to Joni with these 3 books... this is so interesting... In a way, on one level, it sounds farfetched and terribly simplistic, and it probably is... yet, on another level, there have been many times in my life when I've had what seemed to me to be mysterious, mystical experiances... I always believe during these times, that it is much more then a coincidence... who knows, maybe there really is a lot more to "life" then we know... _________________________________________________________________ Rediscover Hotmail.: Get quick friend updates right in your inbox. http://windowslive.com/RediscoverHotmail?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_HM_Rediscover_Upda tes1_042009 ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2009 #100 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe
