I'll get it one of these days. I haven't had a turntable (or anything other than cd/cassette boomboxes) for too long now, and I dearly miss my record collection, packed away in a storage space in another town. A result of too many moves, too many tiny apts., too little money, and one "100-yr." (too big) flood. Maybe someday again . . . 'Tin Angel' captured my gloom completely and was the last song I remember hearing. However, the association of that dreadful time meant that I really couldn't bear to listen to the songs at all for almost 20 years. However, the cheery bit of this post was that I learned to play 'I think I understand' for Fest 2003. I felt I was expanding on a personal recovery mission. 'I think I understand. Fear is like a wilderland' Playing that song at Full Moon and hearing voices joining in on the chorus was one of the best, most healing moments of my life. I continue to give thanks that I was able to hear voices singing along to a song that had been part of such a frightening experience but expresses understanding, healing and growth. Well, least that's how I see it. The song says so much for me and figures very high in my personal Joni Top Ten songs. My personal journey and improvement were further underlined at Joni Fest 2008 at Holycombe when Jeff sang 'Tin Angel'. He gave a whole new view of the song, for me. I now am able to listen to the whole album as a piece of music with songs - and not be drawn back to such a difficult time. Gosh, that feels so good!
