But one place where I was a waiter featured an annoying singer who mimicked Joni Mitchell, right down to the make-believe giggle in "Big Yellow Taxi," just after she sang, "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?" It ruined that song for me. Still, that line has been going through my head ever since I read last week about a new study of how people feel about newspapers. Of the Americans surveyed by the Pew Research Center for People and the Press, 42 percent said they wouldn't miss reading their local newspaper if it were to shut down, and only 43 percent said losing their local paper would hurt civic life "a lot." **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? The Spanish translation of 'All I Want' stays true to Joni's emotions and evokes tender thoughts of love just the same simply with more colors. Spanish is a very colorful language. The Spanish speaking listeners who have now listened to Joni through Laura Canoura must have been delighted and swaying to some cool juke box dives with Joni's lyrics . I love the feel of Joni no matter where it sprouts from--she's in my blood no matter where I roam. Such inspiration for all who can listen! Bob, I enjoyed this Uruguayan girl singing Joni with so much zest and spark---thank you, Bob, as usual. This place just wouldn't be the same without you. Sincerely, Jeannie PS: Last night Lila Downs was in town--a woman of heart and mind and fierce love and peace and justice and full of beautiful colors like Frida Kahlo and Ms. Joni Mitchell and Joan Armatrading and Rickie Lee Jones. PSII: Joan Armatrading plays her guitar licks tighter and better than Carlos Santana can. She's awesome on the guitar and plays like a man, only better!
