You really should read the book in its entirety. It is something of a tapestry :-) with the 3 lives cross-referenced and interwoven. And even though I've never been a big Carole or Carly fan, I found those parts interesting as well. As far as the Joni part, I though the author had a fair amount of courage in tackling Joni's conflicting stories/reactions/portrayal of her giving up Kilauren. And I think that conveyed the complexity of such a situation - - that it's often not a simple decision when dealing with issues like life, death, and birth.
