As for the Hejira guitar versus TTT, I don't think I would say either was close to acoustic, both being heavily effected. The difference is that the VG8 is all digital processing where Hejira was simply a foot pedal before an amp. The digitally processed sound of the VG8 doesn't wear well, like the drum machine on DED and the ear keeps rejecting it as unnatural whereas the old analog sounds were earthier and more caressing to the ear. I think it was more a marriage of convenience for Joni who could for once not be dealing with retuning on stage. All respects due to Paz and his beloved VG8s! You just have to not be tempted to add all the effects and stuff and just use the acoustic sound and it is pretty damn good. I would take a new Joni record on VG whatever rather than no record at all. Me too. I love hearing music that is important to the children in my life. A certain young man in my life knows about Joni via the Nazareth cover, which I absolutely love, especially the driving guitar riffs. MT, he's well versed in music, has an eclectic taste right across the board, which is, in and of itself wonderful. I was playing some Joni for him the other day, and when I put on Wild Things, he curled up his nose and said "who is this??" .. ah well, you cant win em all. Not one of my favourite of hers either. I just cant get my head around that 80s Geffen thing. No offense intended ;--) Mags, who does love Chinese Cafe very much :P - --- On Mon, 3/9/09, Bob.Muller@Fluor.com wrote: From: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com Subject: Kids 'getting' Joni To: joni@smoe.org Received: Monday, March 9, 2009, 8:52 AM http://www.antiracistparent.com/2009/03/09/joni-us/ Thought maybe some of you parents out there could relate. I always enjoy these historical commentaries on Joni's work. In particular, I liked the discussion of the album Clouds and Joni's personal commentary on Both Side Now. where she talks about how each line in this song starts out with a meditation on fantasy then is followed by an observation of reality - each verse has a very naive beginning verse and the second half of the verse is about coming to grips with reality. What is really amazing is that she wrote this song at the age of 21. If Joni has a "signature" song - I would think it is "Both Sides Now" although I have heard others cite Big Yellow Taxi and Woodstock as well. You can stream the radio show via computer at kvmr. org. Anyway, here's a previous show "The Emergence of Joni Mitchell" done on Nov. 16, 2008 celebrating her 65th birthday. Hope you enjoy this tasty morsel. http://www.kvmr.org/programs/sunshowcase/index.html - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This e-mail message (including attachments, if any) is intended for the use of the individual or entity to which it is addressed and may contain information that is privileged, proprietary , confidential and exempt from disclosure. I listened to about 4 hours of Joni's music today at work----she is a Genius, you know. Her ability to verbalize in words and music complex thoughts amazes me. Also one of Joni's peers, Laura Nyro, wrote "And When I Die" in her teens. Late 60's early 70's was a Renaissance for singer songwriters. Also, give KVMR live streaming radio a chance. Check out there program listing during the week. I Durant you'll be pleasantly surprised. take care, gene - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Cc: "gene" Sent: Monday, March 09, 2009 2:21 PM Subject: Emergence of Joni Mitchell > > > Hi Gene, > > Thanks very much for this link. I know now why I love to her from you. You only got two responses from your post and both were cold and technical. Cold cuts? Before I make a statement I would like to refer first to "Black Crow" granted Joni feels like a black crow but what did she see that was so shining? I would love to asked her why does she feel so weary and lost? Are you haunted, desperate, sad? As for "Blue Hotel Room" I feel comforted in her predicament. "Will you still love me when I get back to town" not if her little lover boys follow her that's for sure. I don't think she ever made it back to town.. It takes two to start a cold war. As for "Refuge of the Roads" I would like to ask her what makes her think that most people got nervous what she saw in the refuge of the roads? No one cares. Running like a white ass deer, are you still running? Thank God she never laid down the highway. Shine down on your witness? A witness TESTIFIES. Do you mead witness or Witness? The nets were never overflowing in the gulf of Mexico they are old and brittle now, empty and hopeless. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Mar 2009 20:22:44 -0500 From: T Peckham Subject: Fwd: Blue Motel Room / Refuge of the Roads (Sorry, meant to CC this to the list as well). Hey Willie, Do you perhaps have a mental disorder for which you've been prescribed life-saving meds? If so, are you not taking your meds? I have Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and I've learned the hard way that my brain chemistry requires that I take an antidepressant in order to function. As far as I'm concerned, it's the same as having to take a drug for a heart condition one was born with, or for asthma brought on by man-made environmental problems, for instance. If you're truly having delusional thoughts about Joni Mitchell and haven't been diagnosed, I urge you to seek professional help. If, on the other hand, these are just spam nuisance msgs., I am one who'd prefer not to see them here. (In which case, I can simply block you). In either case, I wish you the best with your struggle. The latest revision of JoniMitchell.com is ready for you to look at. Since it's such a major revision, I'm opening it up only to the JMDL for the first week or two. You can help me get the bugs out of it before it's unleashed live onto the rest of the planet. The new site is all about interactivity and getting you involved: - - Nearly every section has a comment area, where you can tell us how you feel. - - Simon's amazing Chronology section now allows you to add your concert memories and upload photos, concert tickets, and other memorabilia. - - The old song/album poll system has given way to a 1-10 rating system that's quick, easy, and very satisfying I must say. - - Album and Lyric sections have been expanded so that relevant information is at your fingertips - music transcriptions, footnotes, album notes, etc. - - The Library has been expanded to include books, DVDs, and photographs as well as the articles. - - Links to purchase Joni things abound, helping support the site in the process. We've even got links for you Canadian and English types. - - And. you can listen to sound clips of all of Joni's songs. It's important to register to get the most out of the new site. It's quick and free (and it's a new database so your old registration won't work, sorry). My hope is that you will go crazy commenting and uploading and breathing life into the new site. And, please help me make the site better in the next couple of weeks by keeping me informed of any problems you encounter. I'm always open to comments and constructive criticism as well. Enjoy!
