But I haven't joined JMDL at that time so, sorry if this has been posted before. I found this on wikipedia : In April 2006, for the Sun newspaper, Melua chose fourteen pieces of her favourite music that she enjoyed and had the biggest musical influence on her.. The pieces she chose were Paul Simon's "Hearts and Bones", Jeff Buckley's version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Joni Mitchell's "Marcie", Bob Dylan's "Masters of War", James Taylor's "How Sweet It Is (to Be Loved by You)", Chuck Berry's "No Particular Place to Go", Portishead's "Glory Box", Bjvrk's "The Pleasure Is All Mine", Camille's "Au Port", Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name", Bobbie Gentry's "Fancy", Finley Quaye's "Even After All", Suzanne Vega's "Caramel" and Babyshambles' "Fuck Forever".[54] Of all Joni's great songs, she chose Marcie. A quite unique pick. Rian NP. I came in during the memorials to those we lost in 2008 and, as always, was exceptionally moved. For those who saw the entire memorial section I am curious if they had LeRoi Moore, Dave Matthews Founding member and sax player? I did see Bruce's keyboard player, Danny Federici but did I miss LeRoi? Overall, the parts of the awards show I saw were good. I also loved the mixing it up of new and old artists, music builds bridges. Warmly, Cassy NP: Coldplay - Violet Hill If Iraq's biggest export was broccoli, would we still be there ? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Feb 2009 19:28:18 -0500 From: "Phyliss Ward" Subject: Joni Mention on Jonatha Brooke Site De-lurking to share this quote from Just Like This Train by Jonatha in her blog. Submitted by: jbro on 01-23-2009 05:00 am Lovely Thank you so much for these super thoughtful comments. I keep thinking of that Joni Mitchell song: "I'm always running behind the times, just like this train, shaking in to town with the brakes complaining." I hate being a sourpuss, so I really am taking my foot off the brakes! There is so much positive happening out there. So many amazing things that this connectivity gives us. It's the connection to VALUE that keeps slipping away. I think it's always been a bit sad that the biggest most loyal audience out there (adults) is so ignored and so hard to get to. NPR seems really the best avenue. And the big record companies have just continued to shoot themselves in the foot chasing teens with cash and promises, and ignoring the richness of the rest of the landscape. The big execs are going down with the ship (and their ridiculous salaries) and sadly taking us all with them. But out of the wreck, who knows what will rise. I took that amazing miracle in the Hudson River as a sign, there's something good coming. jb Read the whole thing here: http://www.jonathabrooke.com/jonatha/journal/2009_01_20/ Jonatha is one of my faves and she is finally coming to my (new) home town of Asheville in April. A certain Bob from SC will be driving up to see her with me (and the other 18 folks I bought the first 20 tickets available for). Looking forward to seeing BOTH/ALL of them!!! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Feb 2009 21:31:56 -0600 From: Michael Paz Subject: Re: Joni Mention on Jonatha Brooke Site Give her my love. I invited her to come see the band in NYC in early April and she said she thought she was gonna be out on the road. I agree with her. No need for being a poo poo head at this time. Hope and promise are so intertwined "at this juncture". Luv Paz On Feb 10, 2009, at 6:28 PM, Phyliss Ward wrote: De-lurking to share this quote from Just Like This Train by Jonatha in her blog.
