American TV series > "House" has an episode titled "Sex Kills". Wikipedia > says it indeed alludes to Joni's song. I am a total House freak-didn't like it at first, but now am totally hooked, like a Vicodin junkie. I don't recall any connection to Joni's song in that episode, though. It could be a variation of the old saying "speed kills". Then again, the writers could be Joni fans, stranger things have happened. They show reruns on USA network most days, sometimes several in a row. Sarah McLachlan and a bunch of others are participating too. Anyway, they were recycling the posters because they have the wrong dates - it says it goes Feb 26-29 and there isn't a Feb 29 this year! So they're re-doing them. So, if anyone's interested in having a Fiddle & The Drum Ballet poster (with a slightly skewed date), I can save these aside and send you one - gratis, or for a bootleg trade.. if you don't mind them folded up rather than tubed! Postage would be only a couple bucks within Canada or US if I just fold them and put them in 9 7/8 x 6 " envelopes. I think there must be about 30 or 40 posters. A friend just sent me this link....one of my favorite columnists chatting up John Kelly and Joni. To reel you in: "I've pretty well decided I need to put together a cluster of at least ten more Mitchell songs on my not-exactly-Joniless iPod, with special attention to "The Hissing of Summer Lawns," the 1975 LP in which Mitchell gambled a streak of mainstream popularity on an eccentrically cerebral creative breakthrough. It was a huge moment -- more courageous and volcanic than Paul Simon,'s "Graceland" -- and comparatively under-celebrated." All of this talk about HOSL now, must be the start of the latest style: there's some HOSL chat, too, in the comments. Please know that you, your sister and your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers. This quote from Charles Dickens gave me solace during the acute grief I experienced after the death of my father. "When Death strikes down the innocent and the young, for every fragile form from which he lets the panting spirit free, a hundred virtues rise, in shapes of mercy, charity and love, to walk the earth and bless it." Another quote, I think from the Talmud: "In memory is life's reason." Please know that you are loved by so many people from our Joni-family. I think I can safely say that we are here for you. I recently wrote all about my experience with listening to THOSL, alone (the way I wanted it) on the 18TH floor of one of those tall buildings in center city Philly. By the way, I lived communally for many years and my apartment was home to many, many gorgeous souls. How did I listen to THOSL alone???? Simple. I locked the door!!!! Usually it was open as people tended to come and crash any ole' time. Well, as you all know, THOSL was released in 1975. I had surgery in 1975 and was so beautifully cared for by about 25 people. They had parties every night to take my mind off of the pain!!!! I CLEARLY recall lying on my mattress (on the floor) NOT drowsy from paid meds, when a guy I had a HUGE crush on walked in. He gently sat on the mattress (yeah, and I had to be recovering from surgery...bummer) and handed me Joni's latest album. "Bend down honey and let me give ya a kiss!!" I KNOW it was NOT THOSL. He (and everyone else knew) how much I adored Joni and that I had one or more copies of every album that was released prior to THOSL. I KNOW it was 1975, I know I had surgery that year, I KNOW I wasn't loopy when he came in, and I KNOW the album he gave me was NOT THOSL. Believe me, I have a VERY accurate memory of that moment. He told me he had something he KNEW I would LOVE...geeezzz, you can imagine what I was thinking...but, a brand new Joni album is more important than just about anything. Weird. Just wanted to share this with you.
