I am a multi-instrumentalist, luthier, composer and tech who lives in Syracuse, NY. I have written an instrumental that I call "Joni's Smile" that I am looking to produce a video for. Towards that end, I am looking for hi resolution images of her smile or face that you may have and that you would be willing to allow me to use in the video. I have found various images on the internet, but, my software - Microsoft Publisher - only allows for 300 dpi and the images available are often even of lesser resolution. So, cropping and enlarging has proven to be very unsatisfactory. My vision of the video is to use multiple projectors to show the images on various screens, artwork and surfaces of a local museum that are in turn captured by multiple video cameras at different angles and view points while performing the piece live, essentially letting the music be the soundtrack. This as opposed to simply inserted images in the manner that is more typically done. Thus, also departing from the typical shots of musician's playing as the focus while the images appear behind them. Yet still embodying the live performance energy. Joni's Smile was inspired by a photo on the cover of a Billboard magazine that I found in a used book store. While this may sound odd, until that time though I had seen many photos of Joni, I had never seen one of her expressing the joy that came through when the shutter was clicked for that photo. It was a spring morning and I was sitting at my kitchen table trying to figure out a way to play both the guitar and bass notes for a version of Hejira. The notes for Joni's Smile just poured out of my hands, heart and guitar. Each time that I have performed this, one constant has been that people smile. Almost as though the emotion of her face in that moment in time rebirths itself. So, any help that anyone could provide in terms of some hi res files or photos that you would be willing to allow me to use would be gratefully accepted and appreciated. I do believe in giving credit where credit is due and treating other's work with respect. You can email me at _ChamberMuseInk@aol.com_ (mailto:ChamberMuseInk@aol.com) . Thank you. I find it very difficult to sit through much of Travelouge at any one time. Double albums take a lot of investment at the best of times, but this one, phew, tough stuff. There are some great moments - Be Cool springs to mind, although there is an needless extended intro. Generally, in my opinion, the album is paced far too slowly. I very much like this version of Chinese Cafe, but it adds little that is not captured in the original and, that, i think, is the story of T'log. GARRET NP - Chinese Cafe (T'log version) I think you nailed it, Garret. Hearing that version of CC had me playing a bit of T'log for the first time in a long time this morning. I've been pretty rough on it in the past, and I take back nothing, but if the original versions didn't exist (shudders in horror!) I'm sure I'd look at T'log very differently. But they do ... so I don't. :) Michael F. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Jan 2009 23:11:04 +0000 From: "Jamie Zubairi Home" Subject: Tlog, was Chinese Cafe Unchained Melody I guess for people who missed WTRF the first time round (latecomers to her music, I guess) T'log would've been a great way to know the music as WTRF was very rock-orientated sound which might've put people off on first listen. I guess most of the people who come to Joni 'by themselves' are most likely to come via 'Blue' or possibly 'Hejira' so going to T'log is kind of a good segue to get to the rest of the music as the tracks all connect via the symphonic soundscape, rather than getting constantly surprised by Joni's musical twists and turns (which we all love! lol) (For me personally, my favourite tracks are CC and Love which are the least rocky tracks on it and coincidentally the 2 out of the 3 tracks that she put on it Tlog.) And anyone who needed to be reminded that this music is great, T'log gets it all the time. The T'log version of Dawntreader is heartstopping. Not just because of the singing (which is probably the only track I wished she'd taken a few more vocal risks), not just because of the arrangement but because she included it. Is it a yearning for the baby she gave up? Still able to sing that lyric from the heart. And Skaila Kanga's playing of the harp is out of this world.
