But maybe I should not even have called it a Jonifest, and stuck to Bene's original term of "minifest".B I certainly don't see what I do as an equivalent to what Ashara or Lucy have organised in the past, or that you and Dave Blackburn are working on.B In this case, it really is first and foremost a gathering of friends, who happen to have got to know each other through their love of the music of Joni Mitchell.B I cannot even guarantee that Joni's music will be played (although there is a pretty good chance!) and also importantly, I am not working with a commercial venue that I have to fill, I am simply opening up my house to people that I know and trust.B (I don't mean we must have met before, but I do want to know who is turning up!) We have about 10 names confirmed, and another 5 or so "possibles", and to be honest that is probably the right number, if it gets any bigger I may need to find a venue or turn people down. I only advertised our gathering on the JMDL because I don't want to miss out the odd person who may fit the bill: i.e. be comfortable with this being a peoplefest, not a jonifest, and who can get to London for a couple of days without expecting a highly organised event.B Anybody can contact me privately and we'll work it out. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to clarify this. Lieve in London. - -------------- Date: Fri, 28 Nov 2008 19:13:08 +1100 From: Mark-Leon Thorne Subject: Lieve, as a Joni-only list member who gets a bit peeved at times fromB non Joni content winding up in my mailbox, I'd just like to voice myB opinion that I find any JoniFest content totally appropriate to theB list. After all, you're not talking about the weather or a localB council election. This is completely pertinent to the people on thisB list. It is a topic that is important for all members to know about. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Nov 2008 17:17:32 -0800 (PST) From: Em Subject: series on Sundance channel - Elvis Costello saw the 1st episode of what I think is going to be a great new series on Sundance channel. Its called "Spectacle" or something like that, and features Elvis Costello speaking to, chatting with, playing music with different musical guests. I don't think its been on regularly yet - 1st episode is to air on Dec 3. - with Elton John. But on the HD On Demand channel, in the Sundance section, they are already showing this episode. It was great!!!!!!!! they discussed the whole 70's singer-songwriter thang, that was being discussed here on the list recently. JM came up once, in passing BUT BUT BUT Laura Nyro was discussed in depth!!!!!!!! was great!!!!!!! also some Leon Russell content that super-validated some of my feelings I'd had vis a vis him and Elton. In fact the whole show, which featured Allain Toussant (sp) and James Burton as house-band members very much validated alot of diff. stuff I love in music and made me not ashamed (well ok LESS ashamed) to be somewhat early-70's-centric in my views. I *think* this show is new!?? maybe it is just being shown in re-runs? sheesh, won't that be embarrasing to be here gushing over something old...lol. sorry. Anyway, good stuff to come, I think. One upcoming guest will be JT. Other good ones too. :) Em ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Nov 2008 23:39:11 EST From: Merk54@aol.com Subject: Re: series on Sundance channel - Elvis Costello Em, This is a new series. I just a read a very nice article about it. It talked about Elvis' encounter with Johnny Cash and the impact that had on Elvis. There will be a session with Herbie Hancock in the near future. I guess Elvis and Elton are very good friends, and the two of them came up with the concept for the show. Looking forward to seeing it when it airs.
