I can never seem to find a master list and don't always have the patience to scroll through their lists. i see you're listening to Polly Paulusma. I have her earlier album and really like it, is the latest one good? I like Wally Lamb's writing very much. I Know This Much Is True really blew me away. I had a similar experience with Margaret Atwood (and i don't think she is known for being terribly friendly when there are long queues wanting her signature). She was so very gracious and genuine. Sugarpie honeybunchYou know that I love you (and the rest of the JMDL) But I just HAD to mention JoniI can't help myselfI love Joni and nobody else! Well, of course there are others, but Joni is Numero Uno! SIQUOMB. I'm so glad you enjoyed the conversation with Wally. I relayed it (TIC! And still feel relatedLike stations in some relayYou're not a hit and run driver no noRacing away)with toothpicks (not tombs) in my eyes. The stories Wally punched were dreaming, they spoke of love so sweet. How he helped those women prisoners at York Correctional Center get themselves back on their feet. Don't you know that love be so sweet? He is a man of heart and mind. Great empathy. I would love to have dinner with him (Come to the dinner gong, Wally! The table is laden high with Joni stories!) and have him tell me the Joni quote he used in the speech he gave at his son's commencement. I wonder what it was? Maybe I should *casually* drive by his house (he lives on the road to Baljennie) and catch him raking leaves (TIC! and the leaves fall and the pond over-ices) and stop and talk with him again. I'd be singing: "I am on a lonely road and I am traveling traveling traveling, looking for something what can it be..." and oh, my goodness! Well hello there, Wally! Quelle coincidence to run into you today! The Madwoman of Mansfield strikes again! Another drive-by fruiting... Just kidding. That would be stalking. Saw her NYC a few years back: Tony-nominated singer-actress Ann Hampton Callaway will release her latest solo recording, "At Last," in February 2009. The Telarc Jazz disc, which celebrates romance, will arrive in stores Feb. 3, 2009. Expect original songs as well as tunes by Cole Porter, Stevie Nicks, Harold Arlen, Joni Mitchell, Chick Corea and more. The new recording, according to press notes, "is a mix of jazz standards, versatile pop songs and a couple original tunes, each woven together to create a narrative that is perhaps as cinematic as it is musical." In a statement Callaway said, "I always think of CDs like movies. You wouldn't download one scene from a movie. You want the whole thing, the whole story. An album shouldn't be just a bunch of songs in a sequence that's front-loaded with hits. It's really about creating an emotional journey that starts in one place and ends in a place that's very different." Callaway is backed by pianist Ted Rosenthal, bassist Jay Leonhart and drummer Victor Lewis. Guest musicians include guitarist Rodney Jones, violinist Mads Tolling, saxophonist Teodross Avery, flugelhornist Marvin Stamm, trombonist Wycliffe Gordon and percussionist Emedin Rivera. The complete track listing for "At Last" follows: "What Is This Thing Called Love?" - Cole Porter "Comes Love" - Lew Brown, Sammy Sept, Charles Tobias "Carey" - Joni Mitchell "At Last" - Mack Gordon, Harry Warren "Spain" - Arte Maren, Al Jarreau, Joaquin Rodrigo, Chick Corea "Lazy Afternoon" - Jerome Moross, John Latouche "Landslide" - Stevie Nicks "Save a Place for Me" - Ann Hampton Callaway "Over the Rainbow - Yip Harburg, Harold Arlen "Finding Beauty" - Ann Hampton Callaway "On My Way to You" - Alan and Marilyn Bergman, Michel Legrand Not only a singer, Ann Hampton Callaway is also an acclaimed songwriter, whose works have been performed by Barbra Streisand, Patti LuPone and dozens of others. For her Broadway bow in Swing!, Callaway garnered a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, and her many recordings include "Ann Hampton Callaway," "Bring Back Romance," "To Ella with Love" and "After Ours." Callaway is also a recipient of 14 Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC) Awards. ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2008 #234 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe
