Something I hadn't previously known is that Davis and his band played the infamous Isle of Wight festival. Film footage, including some of Joni's performance and an interview with her about Miles is on DVD. http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=6796750# There are a couple of paragraphs about Joni and Miles in Karen O'Brien's biography *Shadows and Light* (which might be found at jm.com.) I don't know if there are published comments from Joni specifically about *Kind of Blue*, but I suspect Muller or someone will be along in a bit with more info. ;-) Best, Terra On Tue, Oct 21, 2008 at 9:30 PM, Rian Afriadi wrote: > O my.... > > Nothing touches me like this, not after I discovered Joni 2 years ago... > > I'm listening to Miles Davis's Kind of Blue. My, you are certainly incognito these days, what with your email handle. I'd hazard that no one will ever guess that! I was also thinking that I might have to cite the Shadows and Light tour (the Providence version) as my most amazing live concert. It was a 'grand conjunction'. Kate cites Woodstock and while it was an awesome experience the music was pretty much lost in the mix of the sheer enormity of the social event. The Grateful Dead were really magic at Yale Bowl in (I think) 73. Marley was electric at Harvard Square Theater. He probably always was. In the 21st C. I'd have to say the Robert Holliston recital in 2006, Alix Goolden Hall at the Victoria Conservatory. People were literally fainting! Runner up this century so far is the Who at Great Woods 2006. It was already brilliant, and then they did the half-hour Tommy encore. And then there was Smurphy at Full Moon Jonifest 2006! I'm not going to bet my motorcycle on it (or anything else, for that matter), but let me take a stab at it. I think it represents the sound/reaction people make/have when they make a Joni connection. Like the time I was walking on the sidewalk somewhere near the southernmost point of Baja California ... a woman who is probably a few years older than I glanced at my t-shirt*, stopped walking, pointed at me, and kind of went "Awk! Joni Mitchell!" Am I close? It was Joni. I can't remember what interview it was and from what period... no I do... it was the DED 'unplugged' session where Joni is talking to an English interviewer in London and she's also playing songs from DED on piano and guitar in a London theatre. She was asked about her voice and why does she think people like it.... Or something like that... The answer she gave was because it was her particular 'awk'... amongst the millions of penguins in the Antartic, 'paired' penguins find each other because of their particular 'awk - awk - awk'. And we like Joni's 'awk', we're drawn to it.
