I hope you can stick around. It's been sad to lose bright, funny people like Julie Z. Webb. Everyone I can think of drops out for a while. It comes and goes. It comes and goes. It comes and... goes. Remember when you were on the phone, all the way from Austria, and I was on Ashara's back porch? I was speaking too loudly, as usual, offending everyone else, but I didn't want to break the chain. There's an old rock song that goes, "Hold on loosely, but don't let go." Jim L'Hommedieu >I think I really do need to leave. It's not just this situation, but kind of a cumulative guilt that I don't really think is psychologically healthy for me to revisit every day.> ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Sep 2008 21:53:28 -0700 From: "Cassy" Subject: Re: JM NYC TV Taping - ----- Original Message ----- From: <<< I must have missed something. What makes an album "gay?" And if these are the greatest, "gayest" albums what are the greatest, "straightest" albums? One reason I'm always referring to the Digest as a family is, in part, from the first line (that I find to be so perfect) of Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina"..."Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way". We are a family...a happy family but sometimes we have unhappy times...where people feel the sting of hurt feelings...when emotions run high over various topics...you get my general drift. And so, I'm very happy to learn that Marian is not leaving us!!! Welcome back, Marian, and I'm glad your absence was brief. You know, I read the Digest and have a myriad of feelings and thoughts in response to all that we share. There are so many times when I feel I lack the knowledge to understand many things...especially about the experience of our gifted musicians...but reading the Digest is sort of like a liberal arts education!...for me, at least. I may have a post-masters degree but my education is not well rounded...way too specific and there are too many times I wish I had listened much more in high school!!! Here's one thing that doesn't relate to an education or lack of one...I have no clue as to what makes a song "gay". I've never thought about the lyrics an artist has written as gay or straight...I hear the lyrics as sharings from the heart and soul of the writer....switching gears...I'm thinking about "Man From Mars"... Joni is so amazingly multi-talented and her poetic application to her lyrics and poetry leave me breathless. I often wonder what it must feel like to have such an abundance of talent to creatively express her most personal experiences...fear, being thrilled, concern for the planet, grief...and the list can go on and on...love and failed love... Why does being gay or straight have to permeate so much reaction to personal expression expressed to the masses through creative and artistic talent? Is there something wrong with me (well, duh...) that I still, at the ripe age of 58, still don't see color or sexuality or most anything to pre-judge about people. We are all so unique. No carbon copies, even though some of us have similar views. We all come from lives filled with different experiences and responses to those experiences. This doesn't imply that we can't feel very strongly about something...these days politics play a major role...the great thing about all four candidates is that I think they are each helping us think about issues that otherwise haven't been foremost in our realities. Here's a need I 'have to' express: it's about animals not having rationale/logic and not going to heaven or hell. I observe the immeasurable logic and rationale in my Poodle pack. This is more readily observed in animals left to their natural habitat. As for an after-life... ...different religions offer many theories...but, so far, none have been undoubtedly substantiated. I want to believe in an afterlife filled with forgiveness and overflowing love. I want to believe that I'll be reunited with beloved family, friends and animals!!! I believe in 'signs' that may, or may not be communications from the 'other side'...or maybe the process is that a particular thought reminds me of a lost loved one and I attribute these thoughts as being 'signs'. Switching gears...Laura, I also want to hear from all four candidates have to offer us concerning the enormously urgent problems we and our planet must confront. Regardless of party affiliation or what candidate resonates more closely with our personal beliefs, the issues are the issues and during political times important issues are brought to our collective conscious. But it's not all about what the winning candidate will do...what are we doing and what can we do???...individually and collectively. I'd love to know what Jung is thinking about our collective unconscious!!! Switching gears again...Kate, the story you shared about your dragonfly and how you're helping it made me cry. Oh I hope it heals with your love and you have the glorious experience of seeing it fly . Lori...Philly people...some of them...are really neat!!! Vince, I particularly found all the facts that you shared about Palin to be very important. I was having this idea all day...but I'm not going to express it as I remember all that was discussed about computers and privacy issues. Not fair...saying I have some idea and then not sharing it...it was about those of us from the Digest who share similar political views doing something together ... something...probably in writing...as a group...I think this is probably not such a good idea....right? I think I can read for a while and then finally sleep...with sweet dreams??? That would be novel! Love and be loved... Some folks need to to look at one thing, using one demension. For the Roses is superb (not that the gayest album couldn't be - if I knew what gayest meant). FTR covers so much morer than than a phone not ringing. **************Psssst...Have you heard the news? There's a new fashion blog, plus the latest fall trends and hair styles at StyleList.com.
