Fort MacLeod is, of course, the birthplace of Joni, although I don't think her family stayed there very long. I was curious as to how a town that I imagined must be very small would have a theatre and that someone like Jennifer Warnes would be appearing there not one, but two nights, recognizing that Jennifer Warnes apparently hasn't done a live show in quite a while. So I checked out the Empress's website and did a google search on Fort MacLeod. Fort MacLeod has a population of just over 3000 people. Why would it have a theatre with live shows? So it turns out that Fort MacLeod is a tourist attraction as well as a gateway to many other tourist sites (and sights) in southwest Alberta. It sounds like the population at least triples during tourist season. Despite its small population, its annual Santa Claus parade (largest in Western Canada) draws 10,000 people. It has the most sunshine hours (colouring the sunshine hours) of any place in Canada. It is within view of, and only an hour's drive from, the Rockies (the beautiful Rockies.) As well, it has milder winters moderated by the Chinook winds It has been chosen to be the new home to the Alberta Police & Peace Officer Training Centre. So, the little town looks like it's booming, as is the case with many town in Alberta. As for Jennifer Warnes, she will be appearing at the Empress Theatre, Fort MacLeod AB Sept 25 and 26, and then in Edmonton on Sept 27; on Oct 2, she will be participating in a McCabe's anniversary show at UCLA. Midnight Cowboy for the movie of the same name; 2. The Arrangement for the movie of the same name. How many songs were written for Midnight Cowboy? Of course Everbody's Talking is one of the greatest songs ever written ... that was included. But Lay Lady Lay is also suppose to have been for the film. And Waren Beatty wanted the lead. The director was - no way - can't imagine women turniing down a looker like Beatty. **************Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget? Read reviews on AOL Autos.
