She not only has the ability to write incredibly well-crafted songs that seem to be completely true to heart, she also has the ability to communicate those songs in performance in a way that makes you feel that she means and absolutely believes ever word she sings. To me, that is the essence of Joni's 'honesty'. Hi Mark, Very beautifully said. Makes me wish again that Joni would write and produce some movies. She's given us paintings, songs, and the ballet. It would be so cool if her songs could come to life in movies now, movies by album or song... and preferably NOT a musical. Ladies of the Canyon would be the first one I'd like to see. Then Don Juan's Reckless Daughter. I'm really dreaming here. If Joni can paint with paint, words, and music then cinema would seem to naturally follow as a further medium in which she could communicate, this time using script and performance of just the right selection of actors and actresses. Love, Laura PS. Thanks to everybody who has been so kind to me about my Raised on Robbery days. I never know how people will take me when I'm that open and honest. It is hard for me to come off the negative thoughts and feelings about myself from those days... which is what recovery is all about and is a very slow process. I'll have 5 years on the 20th. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Aug 2008 09:32:03 -0700 (PDT) From: Mags Subject: raised on robbery and meg munday SJC Muller wrote: So I guess you haven't discovered the 'hidden track' on MOA, Billy? - ROR plays after the runout on side 3 of the LP. I'm kidding...although she did play it on the '74 tour that MOA came from, as well as her '76 tour, and her '79. And just as a point of clarification, ROR is on the S&L VIDEO and not the album. I'm sure that given its basic 12-bar blues/rock & roll structure, it's always been a crowd-pleaser and a welcome break for the musicians involved to just cut loose and have fun. I'm hoping to have a little fun with it myself at Jonifest in a week or so. now moi: lol hidden track! geeze louise, sorry 'bout that! i don't own the shadows and light dvd and somehow my memory told me it was on miles of ailes. oh vell, thanks for the heads up on that one. that version still gives me the willies. i dont know why, it just doesnt work for me. i'm all about musicians having fun, bending the notes, rules, whatever, but there's something a little bit too frantic for me ;-) as for meg mundy, after doing a little search for a photo (which i still cannot find), i see that she played the grandmother in one of my favourite most films, 'ordinary people'. i exist as i am, that is enough ~walt whitman~ __________________________________________________________________ Instant Messaging, free SMS, sharing photos and more.... Joni mentioned this a number of times on the 1974 tour and recently stated that it was written for the final scene, where Warren Beatty's character is left standing on the top of the hill. List member David Phillips posted this bit of trivia way back in December of 1996, but the fact was never commented on by anyone. A year later, a great discussion of the song ensued (compiled here: http://jmdl.com/threads.cfm?id=2 ) but no one mentioned the movie. I'd be interested to hear anyone's thoughts on this song put in the context of the movie it was written for. More trivia: Joni has written (and had rejected) songs for at least two more movies. What are the songs and the movies? Winner gets Bob Muller's voice on your answering machine.
