Recently, I decided to learn Conversation on guitar as it has some of the catchiest music I have ever heard in my life! I'm getting it and it is really quite fun to play. Now of course the singing is another story.....there is no way in hell that I would be able to hit all those notes Joni does. Whenever I want to learn a song on guitar by Joni's, I always end up picking the ones that are hardest for me to sing personally coincidentally...... - -Monika, who is working on listening to best of Leonard Cohen but does like a few songs off the bat NP: Suzanne-Leonard Cohen ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Aug 2008 11:01:46 -0600 From: "Les Irvin" Subject: DC area Joni Tribute Will anyone be in the DC area on August 14? Big Joni tribute then that needs to be attended and covered for the website. A free pass awaits! Let me know off-list, thanks. I have been missing it for years and never could figure out where I had put it. So today, I just happened to see it at my parent's house and was overjoyed as it has been one of my favorite t-shirts to wear ever since I got it at a jonifest long ago and far away.. This probably won't cheer you up, but those bombs were fire-crackers compared to what we've got now. Typical warheads in America's arsenal today are many hundreds of times as powerful. I will also note that the so-called bunker-busters or "baby" nukes that the Pentagon has been developing, intended for so-called "surgical" strikes (sounds so neat and tidy, eh?) actually have about the same power as the bombs we used on Japan. They're only "baby" by todays standards. I certainly hope Seymour Hersh (the same journalist who broke the My Lai story 40 years ago) is just a paranoid crackpot and we're not really planning on using those bunker-busters on Iran's alleged nuclear facilities (many of which are in or near population centers) as he claims. Because if we do, we're all going to hell (at least us Americans). Also, since those will be ground detonations, as opposed to the Japanese bombs which were detonated about half a km in the air, radioactive fallout will be a much more serious problem and will affect the whole region, Afganistan, Pakistan, even India, not just Iran. The death toll would surely be in the millions. I'm sure President Cheney (y'all don't really think that idiot Bush is really running things do ya?) is itching to put America's nuclear arsenal to good use after all these years of "neglect". Our country is ruled by psychotic sociopaths. I see no difference between them and that sicko on the bus. Only instead of a knife they're using the biggest military force the world has ever seen. Peace, David ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 08 Aug 2008 07:36:26 +0100 From: Lucy Hone Subject: UK FEST - calling Paul Headon Hi everyone Queen Lulu here in grey England trying to track down a lister who paid up his deposit for FEST but seems to have disappeared off the face of the planet. UK FEST starts two weeks yesterday and I am trying to find Paul Headon. I have mailed the e-mail I have for him which is a BTinternet mail address but have had no replies. Is anyone on here in touch with him? Paul if you are reading this can you let me know if you are coming? I know I have not been active on here for some time but the plans for FEST are going well and we have 24 people coming from all over the world and it looks like it will be a good one. Whilst not a big gathering it is going to be a fun one and I hope that the reports that will come back to here from those who attend will be positive. What we need more than anything else is for the British weather to do its stuff and haul out a few bright days of sunshine and fair weather so that we can make use of the wonderful grounds at Holycombe and enjoy it all. Even if it rains we will all have laughter and song and that is what fest is about - oh and wine! the attendees list runs as follows Me and John Woodley Chris Marshall Geoff Hankins Les Ross Garrett McDermott Adriano and Licia Lucatello Laurent Olzser Oddmund Kaarevik Bene from Denmark Henning Olsen Christina Friis Nielsen Mike Pritchard Bob Muller Donna Binkley Patrick Leader Anita and Steph Dave and Robin Blackburn Barry Cahill and Delen St Clair Lieve Reckers I am so looking forward to seeing everyone that I have already met again, and meeting those whom I have not. As always Fest is about being there and making it happen, about new friendships made, and older ones re-inforced. If there are any late "want to comes" I have a maximum of 6 spaces, but you will have to bring your own tent and it will cost #225 for the 4 nights including food - breakfast and evening meals, wine with evening meals, tea and coffee, fruit juice etc., Let me know if this is so. the event is being held at www.holycombe.com in Whichford, neare Shipston on Stour in Warwickshire. A more quintessentially British location it would be hard to find! Anyone who would like to come get in touch with me off list. Anyway, Paul HEadon if you are out there and wondering why you have not heard from me, its not through lack of trying.
