I have a lot of Joni material that has been sent to me by Bob and others so, I might try to package some stuff up to upload soon. I particularly like video footage of Joni so I might see what I can do about sharing some of these bootleg DVDs that I've made. Stay tuned... Hopefully Paz will weigh in on this as he is the jmdl authority on the Roland systems. You can use any electric guitar, but will need to fit it with a hex pickup, the Roland GK3 is the latest generation. About $185. http://www.zzounds.com/item--ROLGK3 Joni chose the Parker Fly because it was very light, under 5 lbs (some models weigh more), because she was having back problems. It does not come with the hex pickup built in. My experience with the hex pickup is that you want a guitar with no buzz on the frets-many electrics buzz a bit because the action is so low. The pickup needs to sense each string individually, and convert that signal to digital for the synth, so a nice, clean tone is helpful. Fender makes a "Roland-Ready" Strat with the hex pickup built in, and you may be able to locate one on ebay. New they are about $630. Again, check with Paz before you do anything~! The major highlight was DJRD which I've always wanted to hear live - although it has to be said that Joni's voice was pretty awful on the first verse (nerves maybe, if she hadn't performed the song much or suspected the digital guitar was going to freak out on her). And it's such a shame she didn't include her lifts from the Star Sp Banner - that 'by the dawn's early light' on the studio recording is pure genius! Still, great to hear the song being aired. Thanks again. The Seeding Of Summer Lawns I particularly like her rendition of Shades of Scarlett Conquering on the piano with some chords that are either unusually minor to the extreme or fumblings - knowing Joni they are probably intentional, and very surprisingly Edith and The Kingpin - with just solo acoustic guitar and some overdubbing sounds very much like the heavily produced finalized version to my ear. Question for any Mac owners: I can only play the mp3's through QuickTime and cannot download them to the computer. It seems that if I upgrade to QuickTime pro I may be able to "Save As Source". Is there any other way of downloading the files as mp3's and saving them to disc so I don't have to continually click on the links? Thanks. - -- - -Mark in Florida ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Aug 2008 17:29:18 -0400 (EDT) From: "Jerry Notaro" Subject: Re: Seeding of Summer Lawns Mark, Change your browser preferences to download the mp3 files to itunes instead the quicktime.
