Can't think of any other off the top of my head that fits so well. Great story, also, about why Joni refused to sing the song in the movie (they got a look-alike to stand in for her). It was basically about Joni not being willing to give up her rights to the song. She's an awesome business woman. In a former life I was the Director of Music at my church and I would lead a folk group and we occasionally played at funerals. My favorite to play was "Be Not Afraid." You can find it in most folk hymnals. I also played it at my grandfather's funeral and my grandmother came up to me afterward and said "That song took all the grief out of me." Wow, that was a powerful moment for me. Take care, Sue - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 22 Jul 2008 21:09:35 -0400 From: David Eoll Subject: Re: Death and Funeral music Songs To Aging Children Come, mainly because it was played at the hippie funeral in the movie Alice's Restaurant. Anyone know who that was playing it? That was actually my introduction to the song, I didn't know it was a Joni Mitchell song when I first saw the movie. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Jul 2008 16:12:20 +0000 From: Patti Parlette Subject: The Seeding of Summer Lawns Fiery gems for you Only for you my JMDL Lovies and a MUST for all Joni "Completists" (Hi Kenny B!) I miss Don - does anyone still keep in touch with him? It's in my draft box. Sorry to have left you at a South Carolina junction! I'll go dig it out. Some other good news in there, too. Yeah, I was surprised when I scanned the latest digest in morning UConn town that no one mentioned it. It was all death and death and death and death. Talk about comin' down in smoke and ash.... a veritable funeral pyre! ; ) I have the CD of the actual show I attended on 8/15/06. (Merci encore une fois, et infiniment, Angel from Topsfield, Mass!) I can almost hear my own whoops in the background. Best show EVER (excepting all Joni one's, of course.) The end was indescribable: Let's Impeach the President (up on your feet and pump those fists! Woooooooo hoooooo!), FWIW, Chicago, Ohio, ending with a climatic orgasmic Keep on Rocking in the Free World with Neil on his back on the floor breaking all his guitar strings. Loose wires were lashing out at him. Oh my GOD!!! And the encore was some song called Woodstock that Graham yelled out "is for all of you old hippies out there!" and David yelled: "and you young ones, too." Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. It all comes down to Joni. And you just have to laugh cuz it's all so crazy when some people are grumbling on the way out about all the politics. Uh.....HELLO! It's Crosby, Stills, Nash and YOUNG, people! Also on that CD...LOL...this is funny. You know it's live when you hear some guy yell out: "Sit down in front" and some chick yells back: "Shut up, you asshole!" I'm running wayyyy behind the times w/ a malfunctioning ("the dream's malfunction") computer chez moi, plus I'm lost in house and garden, remodeling my bathroom (if only it could be as simple as climbing ivy for the bath -- faucets, light fixtures, toilet, tub, window, sinktop, vanity, flooring, paint, doors, knobs -- some of the crazy you get from too much choice!), and simultaneously getting ready for vacation. I'm in Flip City these days! (Yeah, yeah, I know. So what else is new?) So those demos are not a thing that is unique and new? Oh, well. They will be to some. Glad you like them, Jeff Z.! xo, pp _________________________________________________________________ Use video conversation to talk face-to-face with Windows Live Messenger. http://www.windowslive.com/messenger/connect_your_way.html?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_Refresh_messenger_video_072008 ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2008 #117 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe
