The article is short and sweet, yet it says so much..seems like most hard-core Joni fans think a lot alike and get extremely protective when it comes to "Our Joni," especially those of us who grew up with her and still growing strong, as we go round and round in this circle game of love, life, clouds and Fellini circus clouds, and more love, and more love and more truth and more beauty and more and more love...and I'm so grateful that we can gather the children who are just coming out to wonder to join us on-board on the coolest carousel of all time, still looking for and trying to protect what's left of the birds and the bees and the dragonflies and the lightening bugs that shine and show off their beautiful, tiny, little lights delightfully at night..so, so pretty, like a ballet that just comes naturally. Geez, poor Larry Klein, for folks really were envious of him just 'cause he was the main man by Joni's side. And I shall always wish the best for Larry and all of his. I think i may be perseverating with the published list! I would most certainly drop streetlight and add jungle line (listened to it to make sure, but i think so). Initially i was surprised by the inclusion of Barangrill, but when i read the lyrics and listened to the song again i was won over. I would most likely drop the beat of black wings too. Oh i don't know. Why is she so talented? If she only had 12 good songs this would be much easier;-) On Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 10:20 AM, JEFF HANKINS wrote: > Hard to resist 'lists'! > Apart from 'Streetlight' I thought the Guardian List was pretty good. Joni tends to return to the concept of looking at other musicians new in the game from the standpoint of not a "been there, done that" as you might presume but a sense of a loss in that innocence....a longing in a way but also a warning for times to come. I had not heard Herbie's collection of Joni songs but was eager to. I got home from a very stressful day of being a beuracrat and found my half.com purchase in my mailbox. I immediately downloaded it on my iPod put on my running shoes and had my maiden listen while cruising the Helderbergs in Southern Albany County on a sunny beautiful evening. My pace was appropriately slow but that's OK I had lots of hills to cover. I enjoyed every step of it. This is a good recording. At first I thought ... another River ... there's so many worthy songs. But I have to admit - I'm glad to have it and all the others too. Joni's in fine voice. Norah and Tina do a topnotch job and Herbie's work is superb. Terrific arrangements. Speaking of arrangements - I'm glad to see some discussion about Ladies of the Canyon. I've always had a weak spot for this recording. I really enjoy it and though I don't play it often I appreciate every listen. **************Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars.
