Have been body boarding for a few days (got so sun burned despite all my sun block and, as I walked down to cliffs carrying my board and in my wet suit someone said 'Ah, a genuine silver surfer'). Followed the link given, but the page has expired - but should I be booking a flight? Anita ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Jun 2008 11:19:10 +0100 (BST) From: JEFF HANKINS Subject: Judy and Joni Went to see Judy Collins on Friday night in Aberdare! (This in itself is remarkable - find Aberdare on Google Earth) A beautiful set with 3 JM songs - one to start and finish (Chelsea Morning/ Both Sides Now) and a 'Midway' appropriately enough in the middle of the concert. Highlights - a stunning 'Who Knows Where the time goes' and the Jimmy Webb song about Gaughin. Before she left I scribbled her a hasty note saying something like ' I hear you're doing an album of Joni covers. I really think you should explore the archives of the unreleased Joni songs '64-'68: your voice could make them live as they deserve...' etc and I gave her contact numbers and addresses so I could advise her further on her choices! Then I did my stage-door-Johnny bit, and while she signed people's CDs and things I thrust my letter at her 'to read on the bus'. She smiled politely enough but passed it quickly to one of her minions with a look that said 'File this in the usual way with stuff from dangerous looking stalkers'. Oh well..try and remember to shave next time. It made me get out my copies and listen to them again. Joni sounds so young on the interviews. Well, I guess she was young back then. Anyway, I was listening to the interview on the first disc about how she writes her music. She said when she first started out, she would write the lyrics first and then the melody. Shortly after, she switched to writing the music first, then the lyrics. After all these years on the list, I should know the answer to this question, but after the 60's did she continue writing the lyrics after the music? It was over 10 years ago when I was reading the bio section of JoniMitchell.com, and unfortunately there is so much I don't remember. I guess that's what is good about having new members on the list. They ask questions about Joni that I *used* to know the answer. Jimmy, who played hooky today to watch the U.S Open ************** Gas prices getting you down?
