Does anybody know of any other arts festivals happening in Europe at that time? Or can anyone suggest a dance venue for which this production might be suited? - -- Friends against HIV in Northern Thailand www.rejoicethailand.org ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Apr 2008 14:15:33 +0100 From: "Mick Kelly" Subject: Re: The Fiddle and the Drum, European Tour Hi Jacky, If Brighton were to be secured for May, and Galway for July, there'll be a need for more venues in-between and maybe before and after, to get the coin clanking. This is a very introspective song. I don't claim that Joni's the only one who should ever sing it or that it's not open to some flexibility when sung by a capable interpreter. But personally I think Chaka should have left it alone. It ain't her style. Just my opinion. Let us know! Nope. Not at the Costco here in Shoreline this past Sunday, anyway. > P.S. Jimmy, give David Mingus my love and healing vibes, please. And from me as well, Jimmy > P.P.S. Bon voyage, Mark! Don't forget to look out the left. ; ) Thanks, Peace Mama Patti. I'm going back for the 30th anniversary of the completion of a theatre that was built at the University of Northern Iowa. I acted in some of the first plays presented in it and I even acted in a play or two that was directed by one of the people the theatre was named after. I am both excited and apprehensive. I haven't been back there for 30 years and I know it's going to be very different from what it was. But I'm hoping to re-connect with some old friends. I have many fond memories of being one of 'those theatre people' at UNI. We were considered to be among the oddest of the campus odd-balls. And, of course, some of us did everything we could to maintain that reputation. Looking back, I sometimes think we were trying to imitate Bloomsbury without really knowing what Bloomsbury was! As Goffin/King wrote and Dusty Springfield sang so beautifully: I think I'm goin' back To the things I learned so well In my youth I think I'm returning to Those days when I was young enough To know the truth.... Mark in Seattle......so catch me if you can........ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 08 Apr 2008 22:07:30 -0400 From: David Eoll Subject: Re: "Come Together" with Joni, Missisippi River Festival, 1969 > From: Patti Parlette > Subject: "Come Together" with Joni, Missisippi River Festival, 1969 > > I know *I* have never heard Joni do "one of her favorite songs", and certainly one of mine. Blessedly, we get to hear Joni tune up before the song, so I'm pretty sure the tuning is: D75417 capo 1 The best I can come up with for the verses are: 000670 Love is but a 005600 song we sing but I'm not 100% sure that's quite it. Sounds a little off. And I haven't tackled the chorus yet. Damn, I wish my old buddy Rob was here. He was a phenomenal jazz/funk keyboard player I knew at UMass. He could decompose any chord for you by ear after hearing it once or twice. (don't you just hate people like that?) Last I heard, he was gigging with like 3 or 4 or 5 different bands in The Bay area, but that was like 10 years ago. I've totally lost touch. :( And I have to go to bed now. I'll take another crack at it tomorrow. Fear's the way we die, David PS Hah! Found him!
