It's absolutely gorgeous - not just for the accompaniment and the Joni-esque harmonies from backing singers, but Joni's vocal beats her TTT version hands down, imo. Listening to it, even the 'one big boo-hoo' (which i used to hate) made sense, as the singer sounds as if she's trying to make light of something that's devastated her, which makes the song even more poignant. I think it was the great Bob who made that version available to jmdl folk some time last year. I think anyone who has a desire to express themselves musically should be afforded the opportunity, through whatever medium. However.....if someone is going to put something out for everybody in the world to watch/listen to, then they should be prepared to be critiqued by their audience. Just because someone is not a "professional" or trained musician doesn't mean they get a free pass. And getting inspired to sing a song is one thing, but her "arrangement" was so far off from the original, had no semblance of any organization, and just had problems on many different levels...it wasn't even about her voice really. Second, Saskatoon is NOT the capital of Saskatchewan - Regina is. Third, The Regina Leader-Post would not have been Joni's "local paper". 4th, Prince Albert (where I live) is NOT 200 miles north of Saskatoon, but about 70 miles. Waskesiu is NOT located in Prince Albert, but in Prince Albert National Park, which is about 45 miles from here. I am just annoyed that Weller went to all the trouble to interview everyone and their dog about the three women, but doesn't fact-check Saskatchewan at all, which wouldn't bother most people, but for me, it's sloppy and makes m e wonder how much everything else pans out.
