Another picks: songs from Billie Holiday, Dylan, Miles Davies, Edith Piaf...) Haven't heard the song? Give it a listen. I love the song. But i'm surprised Joni loves the song too. IMO, the song is not Joni. Oddmund says: In a way I agree with you, I was also very surprised and happy for that choice. I loved the tune when it came out, and still listens to it sometimes, but there might be a danger for over-listening to this tune, so be aware. I don't know if we can define what songs are Joni and not. Joni seems to be a very independent and with a strong artistic integrity to be put in some closet. Like the singer-songwriter closet, or the even tighter folk closet. Not even the Herbie Hancock Jazz closet would fit her fully. I was surprised that she picked that tune, as well as I was surprised she chose Deep Forrest (did she pick two of them???) Than on the other hand, I think if it's one thing we have learnt from Joni through the years is the fact that she will sneak up and surprise on us. I think she loves that. She'll not be put away in any closet, she'll break free, again and again and again.... NP.the incrediblie Ingrid Olava ... (It was a benefit concert for a children's psychiatric program, and she spoke movingly about her own son's suicide.) She opened with "Chelsea Morning", a bit later snatched a couple of words from "The Fiddle and the Drum", and later still sang "That Song About the Midway" (after an endearing false start in which she flubbed the opening line). To my surprise she did NOT sing "Both Sides Now". She's visibly aging -- but her voice is still golden. My Spanish friend gave me a copy of a CD by another Norwegian singer, but I can't rembemer her name. There is a song about a fat woman who is selling her mothers clothes and she says "and yes, I think it's morbid..." Do you know her? Since we are talking about talented and unique Scandinavian singers, my friend Trine-Lise has just finished recording a CD, and has created her own record company to release it. I would say that his work with the International Harvesters had some roll to it as well-Stayin' Power/Out on the Coastline etc. A typically uninformed Joni comment, I'm afraid. Well, I turned off EVERYTHING....learned a lot...so I'm extra careful whenever I use electricity. I sat in the dark and yes I looked at the sky and some stars. An experience I hope to duplicate many times. I thought about Joni for that hour. I learned a few things about myself and maybe others on the List feel similar. I realized that since Joni's very first album, she has been the only constant ...in all ways...in my life. I am so thankful that I am living in a time that allowed and allows me to follow Joni's creative journey. Joni is utterly unique. She may have been influenced by other artists, but if she was, she still remained unique to her creative mind that manifests in so many ways. Joni actually saved my life during turbulent events. Through her lyrics, I found my own interpretation and connected with her so strongly that I felt empowered to conquer a particular set of problems...heartaches...and the list continues on....Joni takes risks...she isn't stagnant and there is not one artist that can be compared to Joni. She translates her feelings in a way that each person who really takes the time to listen to her albums can relate to at least several lyrics in every song. At least this is my experience. Joni is so well grounded. She can become ordinary but only in her special way. After all, Joni is human. But she has the karma, the gift, the multi-talents to help so many people internationally. Joni doesn't compromise...and/or when she did, she sure did write lyrics that expressed her rage...at the business part of being an artist. I think she hung on to help us. Joni is a constant in my life. I can count on Joni....not something I can say about anyone else. Please don't misinterpret what I'm saying; I simply adore music...many different kinds of music. But I realized that each album Joni shares with us was/is so different....unlike so many other artists who don't take risks and try other ways to express themselves. I know I can count on Joni to grow...in every way. I'm rambling and hopefully my chatter was skimmed over and another more important posting was read. Oh how I wish I was talented as an artist...could write lyrics...everything!!! Someone mentioned Dory Previn. I went through a time when I had to read and hear her sing every day. She's unique but not like Joni. ENOUGH!!! Have a wonderful week! Love and hugs from Bo - --------------------------------- No Cost - Get a month of Blockbuster Total Access now. When he came home he told me, "you have to play it. They even have Joni Mitchell on it." Of course he was just pulling my leg trying to reel me in to play it. I have to say I did play Guitar Hero on the easiest setting and I am no guitar hero at the game. In fact, I'd say playing my real guitar is much, much easier than this game. For Pete's sakes, songs like Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love" were hard for me in the game when on a real guitar this was the first song I ever learned. Simple really. Plus, like a real guitar, I kept my fingers up (which is normal for movement) rather than keeping them lightly on the colored buttons so all I'd have to do is press them...hence I kept missing the right colored buttons. However, if a Joni song was included on this game, what one do you think would work best? They really have quite a variety of songs on here as it is. From SRV to Pearl Jam to the Who (a strange but fantastic choice, The Seeker) to Heart to bands I've never heard of to Foghat and so on. -Monika - --------------------------------- You rock. I think I read or heard somewhere that Gregg Alexader (co-writer) was a Todd fan and even mentions a "todd" in his "thanks to various inspiring people" in the liner notes. Wonder if it's the same person/persons doing all three segments or if it's three different performers. If I'm not away on that date, I'd like to check it out.
