Joni Mitchell Lyric Discussion: Down To You JUst chiming in on this one.. Down to you - a more consequential phrase than 'up to you' It implies that actions in the past have been because of your choices, or actions which will affect your future (and much deeper than merely 'Oh, what should we watch tonight at the cinema?' but more like: 'You've studied so hard to become an accountant and it's a week away from your final exam. If you know that this isn't the right career for you and you want to to become an artist, then it's down to you. I can't make that decision for you.' Up to you implies a lighter situation or even a more flippant retort 'Oh up to you!' But Down to you implies you want the other person to think deeply about what they are about to do (or even, what they have done) All the best Happy New Year Jamie Zooby On 30/12/2007, Mark-Leon Thorne wrote: > Down to you = your decision to make. > > Mark in Sydney > - -- I am a lonely Painter I live in a Box of Paints I'm frightened by the devil But I'm drawn to those ones that 'aint afraid... The two Amazon bonus songs might just be my favorites on the whole album, so it's a shame that not everyone got them.? Also, I would to hear the Harlem in Havana.? Can that be purchased separately, or only if you buy the whole album through Itunes? Yep, it came out about the same time as T'log and is much more enjoyable to me anyway - all instrumentals. The only cover of Lakota to date. However, this is also true - Itunes pressures artists to give them exclusive material, in most cases they refuse to spotlight an album unless the artist gives them some bonus stuff. I read an interview with someone, I forget who, who laughed at that request saying that if they had anything good they would have put it on the album to begin with. Speaking of Itunes, I see where they are offering two Joni interviews with Barney Hoskins. Has anyone downloaded them yet - I am tempted, even at the price of $9.99 each. They did have an article in our local newspaper today on Jaco being honored in Oakland Park (a suburb outside of Ft. Lauderdale) where he lived. After 20 yrs since his death, they are honoring him with a yet unbuilt park. I couldn't find our local rag's article on this, but here's a link to another Florida newspaper. http://www.bradenton.com/331/story/296398.html Jimmy ************************************** See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 Dec 2007 14:45:35 -0800 (PST) From: Bob Muller Subject: Re: sjc 10 best list http://download.yousendit.com/39F3154C5CF8DFA8 To hear HiH, IHAK, & ACOY. Down to you, to me, implies something that is final and ultimate. The buck stops here. You are responsible for your attitude, the way you treat other people and the way you live your life. Yes, you make choices about these things. But the *responsibility* for those choices is ultimately yours and yours alone. I guess I'm thinking in the context of the phrase 'it comes down to this', meaning, all factors considered, it all boils down to one root cause. 'Boils down' is another expression of the same concept. I'm not getting this stated as clearly as I would like so maybe my thoughts weren't quite as together as I thought.
