I loved fogged windows with the candles in them and I loved the little street light candles they used to make. I still like little things and little villages - I think we were nurtured with nostalgia growing up which may account for the continued pursuit of all things Victorian - to this day am still a big fan of "A Christmas Carol". I still bake goodies every year, still put up my Santas, my tree, the lights, still detest shopping at the mall and prefer the places that seem like those little villages of long ago, it is the one time of year I cherish in my heart - just wish, as I do every year, that people would lay aside their politics and understand that this time of year is about life and that the only resolution that really matters is the one to keep the warmth of life in your heart in spite of the lunatics on all sides who are quick to politically correct you into some idiotic critic of everything whilst achieving nothing! Joni may have started singing folks songs in '64/'65 but by the time she transitioned to writing her own material her folk days were done. It sounds awfully self-centered to ask for just *my* set I realize, but I've been advised that if I want to book music gigs to sell CDs it's helpful to have a video of yourself performing to send venue people and this fest performance is all I got. Incidentally, it's because of NE Jonifest and the amazing people that attend that I even *have* a CD to sell. My very first Jonifest back in 2000 was my first performance in a very long time. I used to say it changed my life which sounded hyperbolic, but it did, for reasons I won't go into. But now I can say with certainty that NE fest changed my life drastically and I am particularly grateful to Ashara, Chuck, Laree, and Donna who made me believe that weekend that I could and should have a CD. and on to more exciting things ... I'm signed up for 2008, are you??? There's nothing wrong with folk per se but Joni often gets lumped into the folk category and often only that folk category. In a way it is very limiting to her as an artist and very, very misleading as Joni has a wide variety of music that can't really be said it's this or it's that. Don't box her in! She doesn't want that! She has said that she was only a folk singer up to 1965 and really that's pretty accurate. Now her very early albums, I will say, have some "folky" qualities to them but they are far from folk. If you ever listen to some "pure folk" as I call it, Joni's nothing like it. If you want to hear Joni playing folk music, check out a '65 performance of hers on...a Canadian show (I forget the name) which is on YouTube. Now those are some nice, folk covers. But even from the beginning, Joni's music was much too advance to really be considered folk. Folk is kind of simple in a way and Joni's music has always been more technical I suppose. -Monika Rian Afriadi wrote: Joni hates to be called a folk singer.
