On Jackie Robinson day, certain players on each team wore the number 42, and in some cases, whole teams wore 42 like the Los Angeles Dodgers, whom Jackie played for. The number 42 is also the only number that has been retired in every single stadium across the major leagues. Mariano Rivera, closer for the Yankees (though at the moment a free agent) wears 42 but is an exception as he was wearing 42 before it was officially retired. Excellent special effects and it tells a story very well. My only problem with it is, Larry Klein pretending to be Michael McDonald. Does he really think people would believe it's him singing? Michael McDonald has such a distinctive voice. I wish Joni would team up with her. Maybe when the Starbucks gig is up? And I wish Strombo would do an interview with Joni. I'm sure they'd hit it off. Love that Ani - and I said it way back when, whether they team up or not, Joni should definitely release her work on Righteous Babe. Then again, the Starbucks release got a pretty broad promotion. Hey, who am I kidding? As long as she's happy and willing to keep recording, I'm a happy camper. Bob NP: Deerhoof, "Rrrrrrrrright" - --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Well I wasn't sure when it said "November 15th" what that exactly meant. Let me explain. CR is on for me at 12 AM so it is now Thursday, November 15th. I started recording on my DVR until I saw that the episode had only Robert Plant and a couple others as guests tonight. Must be tomorrow then, which would be Friday November 16th for me, but could be, yes? -Monika - --------------------------------- Be a better sports nut! Let your teams follow you with Yahoo Mobile. Every guitarist of Joni's fame and wealth, and many of less, (Jonatha brooke for ex.) usually has a guitar tech as a member of their roadcrew and so this discussion of guitars with automated or digital tuning as the only possible way someone who uses multiple tunings can perform is just bizarre. She could have asked Pat Metheny what he does about it, or Larry Carlton, or Mike Landau, or Robben Ford or.......shit you don't even need a guitar tech: I perform two hours of her music using four to six guitars on stage and never retune once all night Dave B ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2007 19:43:33 -0600 From: "Dan Olson" Subject: Re: Joni on Charlie Rose.. Joni looked like she was having fun and her delivery was so soulful and strong. I was listening to 'For the Roses' in the car on the way home from work tonight. I got to thinking that, even when she was singing in that pristine soprano voice, Joni has always sung like she's telling you something. Like she's actually speaking to you. But singing. I can't explain it any better than that. I think a big part of why we love her so much is that she's such a genius at communicating when she performs. The excellence of the lyrics and the music have a lot to do with it. But she has a way of getting straight into your head and heart that is very powerful. I've finally caught up....ok mostly deleted... the posts from the last couple of months. My life went into a bit of a tailspin when my brother in law died unexpectedly. I was in Miami helping my sis through this difficult time when the Joni and Herbie CDs came out...didn't get them till weeks later and still haven't had my life in a place to really listen to them much. And of course the posts went into overdrive! Whew! I'll try to be more up to date now (despite upcoming travel) so that I can comment on things and NOT MISS ANOTHER JONI BROADCAST EVENT! Damn! Thanks to U-Tube I did finally see the CBS Sunday Morning thing...nice piece. Yeah, short, but nice. I do not want to miss Charlie Rose though. Does anyone know when this is really going to be shown so I can set my recorder? The website says Guests: Joni Mitchell Appearances: None. What's up with that? Did she cancel? Inquiring minds want to know. Also, Bob and I have booked both the John Mayer and Friends and Cayamo Singer Songwriter Cruises through www.Sixthman.net , back to back in February. Is anyone else from the list going? If not, then WHY? It should be a blast plus: EmmyLou Harris, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt etc etc etc.! Contact me or the website for more info. I've already suggested they do a Herbie Hancock and Friends Cruise. Wouldn't that be interesting! I had a major dream last night. The kind where you wake up and go back to sleep and it picks up again. Started out as annoying unexpected visits from large numbers of extended family (which not surprisingly echoes my current real life) but it turned into a full blown Joni dream when "Jamie Box of Paints" (who I know only from his screen name on this list) shows up and clues me in it's all elaborate ploy to lure Joni to a pool party, which happens successfully. She looks radiant and we do lots of talking, chicken squaking! And then I started thinking about Joni's universal truth songs<< O Marian you have captured the way I love to experience all of Joni's artistry! Impossible Dreamer speaks directly to my soul and I particularly identify with this song. Is this her tribute to John Lennon? I usually listen to Joni when driving as it somehow makes all the road rage disappear into a big blur of beauty. Pat Matheny's One Quiet Night does the same thing so I always keep it in the glove compartment for emergencies..... DED is such a great album! I esp love Fiction, The Three Great Stimulants and Shiny Toys. The only song she has ever done that I don't like is Twisted. While Dancing Fools is certainly not her best tune it is FUN and I rarely skip it. I just don't understand how any Joni fan could call anything Joni has created as 'sucky.' That adjective is what I would expect from the Rolling Stone reviewers of Hejyra, Don Juan's Reckless Daughter and Mingus when they were first released.....
